What Do You See When You Look in the Mirror? – Part 2

So a couple days ago, we were talking about Part 1 of ‘What Do You See When You Look in the Mirror’.

Basically, the question I asked you and the whole gist of it was this:

What kind of image of yourself do you see… when you look in the mirror? Not what do you physically see about yourself on the outside… but what do you see about yourself on the INSIDE with your well, put-together self!?

To read that previous blog post, click here.

In order for us to know what we should look like, what we should act like, and MOST importantly… what is our purpose on this earth, we must look to see what kind of character God has, and when we find that answer… we will know who we TRULY are.

Kinda deep, huh?

Because, let’s face it. There are many people out there today in different classes, stations of life, people who have a lot of money… and people who are broke, people who are healthy as a horse… and people who look like they got kicked by a horse… etc.

But no matter how successful (or unsuccessful) we are or think we are in life… unless we know what our purpose is in life… we are lost. That IMHO is why I believe so many people commit suicide each day, and why people stay in dead-end jobs all their lives, and why many people stay in unhealthy relationships with others.

Simply put, I’ll venture out and say we don’t know who we TRULY are.

The points I want to get across come from Genesis 1:26, 27 and this is what God blessed every man, woman, and child with upon their birth. Whether you believe in the Bible or not, it’s as real and as sturdy as the law of gravity.

It’s His 3-point promise to us… and you can look at it as your spiritual ‘Bill of Rights’, because He has created us all as equal, with certain unalienable rights.

1) God has created you in His image and likeness – meaning the things He does and the character He has is within you.
2) God has created you to have dominion – meaning you are in charge and you have the right to be in charge over things such as your money, job, emotions, health… rather than those things having charge over you.
3) God has created both males and females (mankind) in His image – meaning that the female sex has the same right to walk in God’s blessing as the male sex.

When we look at God our Heavenly Father, there are many attributes we can see in Him, through looking at what He says about Himself in His Word… and from simply just observing nature with our very own eyes.

He always keeps His promise. When He speaks something, He believes that the words He speak will come into existence. He is love. He forgives at the drop of a hat. He is angered by injustice. He is a provider for His children. He sticks closer to us than a brother. He owns the cattle, silver, and wealth on a 1,000 hills. If someone is sick, He speaks a word and they become healed…

Can y’all believe that? And that’s just a few character qualities about God that come from just the Bible.

When we look at nature around us, we can see His goodness all around us from how He causes the earth to spin at a perfect axis & tilt around the sun, so we are neither frozen… or burnt into oblivion… to how the four seasons come and go in a timely fashion like clockwork, year after year. That means He is also a God of perfection and high quality.

All these traits are a small part of God’s image and His nature that we all have inside of us:

When you speak something, keep your promise. Believe that the very words you speak will come into existence, no matter how crazy it may sound. Believe that you are love… and that by loving others (showing charity to them), you are fulfilling God’s command. Forgive the person who did you wrong back in the day, and don’t try to get even… but let it go. You are man or woman made in perfection and are high quality… because God didn’t create junk, nor was He having a bad day when He created you!

God has created you to have dominion (defined as ‘Power and influence given to one through a legal authority’). God is your legal authority, and has given you power and influence.

Okay, so I have dominion, power, and influence over what?

Over everything He created on this earth. You have dominion over your emotions… meaning that anger, fear, depression does NOT have any right to envelope you and take control over your life.

You have dominion over your finances… meaning that dollars are printed from sawdust, which is made from trees, which God created. Money (or the lack of it, or the love of it) should NOT have dominion over you.

You have dominion over tangible things that you can touch, see, or smell… meaning that alcohol, drugs, food, cars, automobiles, houses, clothes, jewelry should not have dominion over you.

You have dominion over your future… meaning there is nothing you can do about your past, but your future looks bright and sunny, and the choices that you make today (be they good or bad) will directly influence your tomorrow. People do not not have dominion over you, so don’t allow people to make decisions about your life for you… do it for yourself!

God has blessed us all… men and women alike… with all these rights for a reason… because He is our Father and loves us, and wants us to have the best. All you who are mothers and fathers currently know what I am talking about… you want the best for your kids.

So when you look at the mirror tomorrow morning, start looking at yourself as a winner and as one having the right to walk with their head up high, because you are awesome and highly favored, baby!

Encourage yourself and others… and until tomorrow… walk in God’s rich abundance, today!

What Do You See When You Look in the Mirror?

Every morning when we all wake up… there are certain things that we ALWAYS do by habit, and typically we do those habits in a particular order.

Alarm clock goes off! Jump out of bed! Trip over the shoes you left by your bed! Take a potty break (yes that sounds nasty, but we all do it in the morning)! Brush your teeth! Wash the crust out of your eyes! Take a shower! Eat breakfast! And the list goes on…

The one thing I believe we all do in the morning, is we look at our reflection and image in the mirror. My question to you is this: When you look in the mirror, what do you see? What kind of image is staring back at you from the other side of the glass?

I’m not talking about physical features, such as you have blonde hair or black hair… acne or baby smooth skin… big nose or little nose… I’m talking about something a tad bit deeper than that.

Do you see yourself as someone who deserves to be blessed and have more in life when you look in the mirror… or perhaps you see yourself as someone who deserves to be cursed?

Do you see yourself as being a high achiever… or do you see yourself as a stepping stone to be used by other people as they get ahead in life?

Do you see yourself and walk with your head held up high in positive self-esteem… or is your self-esteem and chin so low to the ground, you could sweep the floor with it?

What do you see when you look at yourself in the mirror for the first time every morning?

Let’s look at what God’s Abundant Word says to us today:

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. ” – (Genesis 1:26, 27)

As you can see from the Word above, in the beginning when God created mankind… among the many traits he endowed all of us with… he said (1) I’m creating you in MY image and likeness, (2) I’m creating you to have dominion, and (3) ALL males and females will have these unalienable rights.

Sounds like the U.S. Constitution, huh?

So, if we are created in God’s image and are supposed to look like God… then in order for us to understand ourselves, our feelings, and even our very purpose for even living life… it makes total sense to me… that we must look to see what God looks like.

We must understand what the different qualities of God are and what he does, or doesn’t do… in order to understand ourselves.

Who better for us to turn to when we are trying to understand ourselves, than the one who created us, made us, and sustains us?

Tomorrow, I will discuss these different qualities that God has… and the POWER that we can all have if we walk in the dominion that God has blessed us with.

Until tomorrow, be blessed and highly favored… and walk in God’s Abundance, today!

When Your Time Comes – Jump on It!

Congratulations on presidential elect, Barack Obama, for his historic, huge run and win that he made… in traveling down that long road to the White House this past Tuesday, November 4, 2008.

Whether you were an Obama-mama… or a McCain-ite… or just plain didn’t care who won (highly unlikely)… it was incredible seeing the reactions of people all across the nation, as well as the world celebrate his victory.

The one thing I especially noticed were the tearful and emotional reactions of many of the older, black men and women who were a part of the civil rights era… and marched with Dr. King.

Their reactions were all virtually the same: “Never could I have ever imagined in my lifetime… that an African-American person would have even the slightest possibility… of ascending the steps to the White House”.

In fact, Obama’s victory lead many people, pundits, news reporters, media outlets, and Joe the Plumbers to wonder… how did he [Obama] do it? How did he beat out the popular and strong Clinton brand? How did he win his 1st primary victory in Iowa (a state that has less than a 6% black population)?

How did he beat out a war veteran, with 20+ years of Senate experience, who has served his country for over 40 years? How did he raise almost three-quarters of a BILLION dollars for his campaigns and ads in less than 2 years and crush everyone else with this MASSIVE fundraising?

Without getting too political myself… or getting to deep into it, I think Scripture has a slight inkling on how this 47-year-old, junior senator from Chicago did it… and also on how this phenomenom can apply to us:

“I have seen something else under the sun:
The race is not to the swift
or the battle to the strong,
nor does food come to the wise
or wealth to the brilliant
or favor to the learned;

– Ecclessiastes 9:11

What God’s Abundant Word is saying to us is this: We can have all the physical talents, or the money, or the support from people, or gifts that God has blessed us with… but it doesn’t mean we’re going to be #1 JUST because of that.

The last sentence declares, “Time and chance happen to them all”… meaning that there are TIMES when the environment around us is so ripe and sweet around us… that we have almost no choice, but to pick of it’s fruit and eat it… when these CHANCE event present themselves to us.

In Obama’s case (IMHO), 2008 represented a year where he almost had no choice, but TO win, because the environment and the chance presented to him, was just to ripe for him to win.

Consider this:

The economy was in shambles and in the worst shape since the Great Depression, the Republican party was in a virtual mess, foreclosures are at an all-time high, there are two wars being fought (one of which is HIGHLY unpopular), and a current President who some (not all) view as the Worst President of All Times.

Obama came in offering the assets and talents he did have: a “Change” message, a new face, polished oratory skills, calm demanor, and charisma… true enough, but without the environment being “ripe for the picking” and these chance events happening, his historic win may have been VERY unlikely.

Obama’s TIME and CHANCE for the presidency came… and instead of not making a move, he took the initiative… jumped on it, grabbed the bull around the horns, and ran with it!

I believe we can all learn something from Obama. At various times in our lives, opportunity just seems to present itself to us. Sometimes, it seems to just drop in our lap like a gift from heaven.

Have you ever looked back over your life and thought, “You know, I wish I had done ________ when I had the opportunity to do it”… or “I wish I had gone after __________ back in the day.”

We all have missed out on Time and Chances when they have presented themselves to us… every single one of us. While we can’t do anything about the past (unless your name is Michael J. Fox and you have a time-traveling DeLorean)… you can put yourself in a position where you can JUMP on opportunity as it presents itself in the future.

When opportunity happens to you next time in the future (which it will), don’t be afraid or fearful about it. Don’t hurt yourself, by saying, “I’m not smart enough”… or “I don’t have enough qualifications for this position.” or “I don’t really deserve this”.

Don’t hurt yourself by not making a move on the opportunity as it presents itself. If it is something great that happens to present itself to you… and you truly desire it and you have a peace with it, GO FOR IT!

Think about of us, and don’t rush into it, but don’t wait too long… because that opportunistic moment of chance that has been blessed to you can just as easily pass you by, and move to the next person who is ready to jump on it.

Have a awesome Friday, and a blessed weekend… and until Monday, walk in God’s Abundance for your life, today!

Goal Setting – The SEXY Way – Part #2

This is the second post, in a 2-part series discussing how powerful the effects of goals can be in your life… if you implement them correctly and with enthusiasm. To read the first post, please [CLICK HERE]

Alright my people… so yesterday, I identified why Goals are sexy! No, goals don’t have curvy hips and long legs… and no, goals don’t have bulging biceps or plump pectorals, but they are definitely the SEXY thing for you to have in your life.

Goals influence you, goals motivate you, goals pull you higher than you could ever hope to reach, and goals help to define you.

So, let’s go into more specifics on goals… if you read the previous blog post yesterdat, you will definitely understand why it is important and VITAL that you have goals.

Goals MUST be written down somewhere (on a notebook, on a sheet of paper, etc.). If you just keep your goals in your head without writing the vision down on paper… you will forget what it is… and the goal will lose it’s power of influence in your life.

Goals MUST be put in a place where you can view and read them at least once a day (such as on your bedroom or office wall, on the fridge, in your underwear drawer, etc.). The more times you are able to read your goals on a daily basis… the more ingrained it will become in your mind and your spirit.

Here’s something that I learned while going to college (yes… I actually learned something good in college). Goals must be S.M.A.R.T…. meaning that your goals must be:

Specific – Meaning you don’t focus on just setting some general goal, like “I want to lose weight” or “I want to make more money”… that’s too general! Your goals should look more like “I will join a gym, workout 3 days a week, and lose 25 lbs.”… or “I will go back to school, learn a new discipline, and will raise my salary up by $20,000 a year.”

Have a little attitude and a little spunk in setting your goals… you’ll like it!

Basically you identify the Who, What, Where, When, How, and Why of your goal.

Measurable – You have to be able to measure your progress of your journey to reaching your goal. So if you want to lose 25 lbs in 5 weeks… you would measure yourself each week by making sure you’ve lost at least 5 lbs. each week. If you haven’t lost at least that much weight, you know you are off-track some and need to work a bit harder.

Attainable – You can attain (or have) almost any goal that you set eventually with hard work, a positive mindset, and perseverance. Think to yourself… is it important that I reach this goal. If not, then it probably isn’t a good goal for you to have in the first place.

Realistic – While I am a firm believer that we as sons and daughters of the most high God can reach almost anything that we set out to do… let’s take a step back and be real. If you are 3-foot tall midget, you’re probably not going to be able to reach the goal of being an N.B.A. basketball player.

If you were not born in the United States of America… and are not at least 35 years of age… you cannot ever hope to be President of the United States.

Most things in life CAN be reached in life with goals and faith (firmly believing it will happen)… but make sure that you’re realsitic about it. Make sure you’re willing to put in the time, expenses, blood, sweat, tears, and the effort that is needed to undertake in order for you to reach the goal. Make sure you’re willing to pay the price!

Timely – Goals MUST have a time frame set to them, so that they can WORK for you. So your goals may look like, “I want to graduate from dental school in 2 years” or “I want to be able to bench press 300 lbs. in 6 months” or “I want to be able to purchase my first home by January 1, 2010”.

When you set deadlines to your goals… it keeps them from going dead… and makes them that much more real in your life, and helps to push you harder, so that you can reach them.

That said… write down your goals NOW! You don’t have an excuse not to succeed in life. You don’t have an excuse to not be the person you want to be, or have the things you want to have. You don’t have an excuse not to do the things you want to do in life.

THe only one who can change your life, is you… and you can start today.

Tomorrow is going to come whether you want it to, or not… so you might as well make it brighter by setting your goals today!

Until tomorrow, be blessed and walk in God’s rich abundance today!

Goal Setting – The SEXY Way

Okay, so I wrote this headline to capture your attention. Did I do a good job? Anyways… when we think of goals and writing goals down… let’s be real, it sounds B-O-R-I-N-G.

Sure… goals do NOT have an hourglass shape… or have a 36-24-36 measurement… or look good in a little red dress, but if we could see how good goals can look like in our lives when we implement them… they would look very sexy!

I bet you never thought you would hear a preacher use the word ‘Sexy’, did you???

But if we could see how POWERFUL the effects and results of goal setting can be in just about every aspect of our life, goals would be one of the MOST attractive things we can lay our eyes on.

Let’s look at some wisdom from the Bible:

“Write the vision down, and make it plain on tables [a tablet, notepad], that he that reads it may RUN with it” — Habakkuk 2:2

In yesterday’s blog post, we talked about having a vision in your life for yourself (click here to read that post). In order for us to achieve our vision that we have for our lives… it is essential that we write it down on paper.

A goal simply put is this:

You writing down on paper where you want to be, what you want to have, or what you want to do… at a certain specified time.

You can also look at a goal just like you look at a MapQuest map when you’re traveling. Your goal is the destination where you want to ‘end up at’.

Too many times in life, we let life & circumstances dictate where we should go… instead of us dictating to life & circumstances where we WANT to go. Goals are the engine that superpower us into ACHIEVING just about EVERY desire we have in our life.

So you don’t believe that goals will work for you if you work it? A Harvard study that was done many years ago followed a class of graduate students over a span of 20+ years. Only 3% of those students WROTE down their goals.

At the end of the 20-year study, the 3% of the graduating class that wrote their goals down… had accomplished MORE than the remaining 97% of the class who DID NOT write their goals down!

The 3% with the goals were wealthier, happier, had more satisfaction with life, were healthier, and more vibrant.

All because they set and wrote down some boring ole goals for themselves.

The Bible agrees with this. Even back in 600 B.C. when the prophet Habakkuk wrote penned those words of wisdom through inspiration… it holds SO true today.

If we write our vision down on paper (goals)… when we read it, it allows us to run in life, instead of crawl.

Goals seem to be as sure as the law of gravity, as sure as the sun coming up in the morning, and as sure of it going down in the evening. Goals work for people who use them. Whether it is science or some type of weird, supernatural phenomenom — goals have a tendancy of exciting, invigorating, and pushing you to your fullest potential.

You need goals for your career or business. You need goals for your physical health and well-being. You need goals for your family. You need goals for your spiritual life. Just about every aspect of life you have… YOU NEED GOALS!

I will talk more about goals tomorrow… and get more specific on how to set proper goals which will excite you and drive you to get to places that you never dreamed that you could ever get too! Until then, think and dream about where you want to be at life in the next 5 years. Where do want to be at in life next year? Where do want to be at in life in the next 6 months?

What have you always wanted to do… or to be… or to have in life? Have you wanted to write a book, or perhaps start a new business, or maybe go to the moon (hey — space traveling is definitely NOT my thing, so I won’t hate on you if it’s yours!). What did you always dream about doing in life, ever since you were a kid?

Think about it and until tomorrow, be extremely blessed… and remember God’s abundance in your life starts today, so grab it and run with it now… because tomorrow is too late!

Do You Have 20/20 Vision?

Where there is NO vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” – Proverbs 29:18

When you hear or read the word “Vision“, how do you define that 6-letter word? Do you view it as just what your eyes see… or do you view vision as how far you can see… or perhaps, how well you can see (or can’t see) at night while you’re driving?)

Vision is defined in the dictionary as (1) The ability to see something… and (2) to have a vivid, mental image of something that has yet to pass.

I want you to concentrate hard on that second definition

To have a vivid, mental image of something that has yet to pass.

No, and I don’t mean you eat some spoiled, month-old bologna last night… and you had some crazy, translucent, vivid, mental images of blue Smurfs running around your bed (that sounds a bit scary, huh?)

I’m talking about YOU having the the type of vision… where you can vividly SEE yourself at a much further state than you are at presently, 6 months, 1 year, or 5 years down the line.

I’m talking about YOU having the type of vision, where you can SEE yourself as a millionaire… even if you don’t have nothing but a dime, an old Snickers wrapper, and a few balls of lint in your pocket.

I’m talking about YOU having the type of vision, where you can SEE yourself running your own business or going back to school and getting that degree that you always wanted… even if you have 6 kids, and 1 on the way, and are struggling to make ends meet!

I’m talking about YOU having the type of vision, where you can SEE your whole family coming back together like a real family… even though none of them gets along, haven’t talked to each other for years, are estranged,  and when they do meet up, want to rip each others throats out!

The type of vision God wants you to have. He wants your vision not to depend on what your natural eyes sees… but He wants your Vision to depend on what your eyes of faith sees. So just because your life may look like a hot mess right now in your natural eyes, doesn’t mean that’s where it has to stay at!

Allow God to fit you with a prescription pair of glasses that will totally change the way that you have been looking at the world.. and yourself. I promise you, the type of corrective lenses He will give you will give you such awesome 20/20 vision… you will see the light once again!

If you can see it, you can achieve it… and if you can achieve it… you can be it.

Make up in your mind RIGHT NOW… that no matter what you (or anybody else) thinks about you, that you are going to start seeing yourself as a successful person. You’re going to start seeing yourself at a much higher station in life than you currently see yourslef at.

Because this is VERY sad, but VERY true, when we don’t have a positive VISION for our life… we begin to slowly perish (die) on the inside. That fire, desire, and excitement that you had as a kid… will slowly start to fade… and you will actually start to die slowly on the inside.

Tomorrow, we will talk more about Vision… and how you can attain your vision through goals… so tell all your friends about the blog and tune in tomorrow.

Until then, see yourself as God sees you (a winner, an overcomer, his child, blessed beyond measure, a success), have an AWESOME day… and walk in God’s Abundance today, because tomorrow is too late!

So You Had a Bad Day?

LOL… Does that YouTube video above describe you?

Once again, it’s MONDAY… and today millions of people from coast to coast in America (including you), have jumped out of bed, with a huge smile on their face, excited and leaping with joy… with the sun shining bright through their windows… lovely bluebirds chirping beautiful songs in the trees outside… waking up to the fresh, tantalizing aroma of mountain-grown coffee!

Because we get to start yet another WONDERFUL workweek at our job, business, or school!

Okay, so the stats are probably only about 1 in a million people who enjoy Monday mornings (and you are probably not that 1 in a million)

And that scenario above is probably more in tune to a Walt Disney movie… or an old 1980’s Folgers commercial.

The rest of us roll out of bed, with crust in our eyes… stank breath… cursing and complaining… kicking the dog… the alarm clock blaring in our ears… rushing to work because we overslept and have to be at work in 13 minutes.

Life can be so HORRIBLE… our weekends (Friday evenings, Saturdays, Sundays) seem to RUSH by in 1 day… and our weekdays (Monday through Friday) seem to CREEP by at a snail’s pace of 10 days.

Again, I say, life can be so HORRIBLE… or does it really have to be?

God declares in his word, “As a man thinks (believes) in his heart (mind), so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7). Don’t worry ladies, God isn’t leaving you out… when He says “man”, He’s talking about “mankind”, which includes you… so go ahead and let out a big sigh of relief. *WHEW!*

Whether we have a good day, bad day, wonderful day, or horrible day… depends entirely on YOU and nobody else!

It doesn’t depend on how your co-workers treat you at the job… it doesn’t depend on whether you have enough money in the account so that your car payment doesn’t bounce, AGAIN… it doesn’t even matter whether Obama is elected tomorrow, or if McCain is elected tomorrow.

Whatever you believe in your mind or your heart about YOURSELF… that is what will frame your entire day or week that is yet in front of you, for the POSITIVE… or for the NEGATIVE. Your mindset and emotions RIGHT NOW are the fabric from which your future will be sewn from TODAY and TOMORROW.

If you believe that everyone is against you… they WILL be against you. If you believe you will never achieve anything in life… you will NEVER achieve anything. If you believe that today is going to be another painful day… it is GOING to be a painful day. If you believe in boogie men living under your bed… guess what? Well, I’ll leave that one alone…

But honestly, I think when we get down to the point and the nitty gritty of things… 999,999 out of 1 million WANT to have a great day, and want to love life, and want to have joy… but their thoughts don’t reflect this…

So go ahead and try this today… if you want to change your life today at mind-shattering speeds… and start seeing the glass as half-full (and not half-empty), try this prescription that Dr. Daniel is going to prescribe to you today for AT LEAST 30 days… and take it every morning when you wake up. I promise, it’ll taste better than Robittisum (I guess everything tastes better than that stuff!)

Your Prescription: Start calling yourself what you want your day [and life] to look like.

Yes, you read that right… I know your momma gave you a good name at birth, but God is going to give you another name today… so that you can walk in some abundance, today!

* My mother named me Joan, but today… I AM Joy!
* My mother named me Blake, but today… I AM Blessed!
* My mother named me Winnie, but today… I AM Wealthy!
* My mother named me Henry, but today… I AM Happy!
* My mother named me Simone, but today… I AM Strong!
* My mother named me Victor, but today… I AM Victorious!
* My mother named me Constance, but today… I AM a Conqueror!

You see where I’m going with this… I could keep on going on and on telling you who your heavenly Father wants you to be! You think I’m crazy by saying this, but it WORKS if you’ll work it!

God did it when Abraham was sent by faith to sacrifice his only beloved son Isaac, on a mountain in Genesis 22. God provided a ram in the bush for Abraham to kill in place of Isaac… and God said His name at that point was Jehovah Jirah (I AM a Provider). God’s many names reflect who He is and what He will do for his children, and include Jehovah Rophe (I AM a Healer), Jehovah Shalom (I AM Peace), Jehovah Tsidkenu (I AM Your RIghteousness).

If God can do this… then we can too, as we were ALL made in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26).

So today, have an AWESOME day. Find out what your TRUE name is, and call yourself AND your day by your TRUE name today and for the next 30 days… and until tomorrow, walk in God’s Abundance today!

Go Ahead and Delight Yourself… Really!

Okay, so this is my 2nd motivational post on the NEW blog (yeaaah!). It comes on a Saturday, and really I only want to post inspiration on Monday through Friday as the Lord places on my heart… but here goes a little abundance tidbit for you below…

Oh yes… and remember… ABUNDANCE starts in your mind first & begins for you TODAY and RIGHT NOW! Yesterday cannot be changed and tomorrow is too late to start. Start making the positive changes in your life today and don’t wait… because God has something GOOD for you!

Good Morning!

“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – (Psalm 37:4)

Stay busy delighting yourself in the Lord (seeking your happiness and satisfaction in Him), and let Him give you what He wants you to have. If God has placed the desire in you, you can be assured that He will bring it to birth in the right season.
