Do You Want IT Bad Enough?? — PAIN vs. PLEASURE

Pain Vs. Pleasure

A couple weeks ago… I had a few conversations with a friend who was out of work. She had come up with a GREAT idea for an Internet business and was VERY excited about it… and asked me what my professional business opinion was of that idea.

I examined it, researched the competition that was in the particular niche she wanted to get into, and decided that it was an EXCELLENT opportunity for her to jump into.

It was a business that she could jump into with less than $150, would only require about 15-20 hours a week of her time, and would generate her NO less than $5,000 – $7,000 net profit a month. I was pretty excited for her too… because when I first heard her idea, my first thought was that it was kind of weak and probably wouldn’t make money… but the research and the facts proved otherwise!

So I told my friend about my findings, and also informed her that I was so SURE that she would succeed in it… that I would design her a website, advertising and sales copy, and mentoring at the beginning of the launch of her business… for FREE!

Well imagine how surprised I was… when she started having hard-core doubts after I told her how AWESOME her idea was. She came up with almost every excuse in the book on why she wouldn’t be able to succeed.

“I’m afraid that I’ll fail…”, “I don’t think I could do all that…”, “What if my business grows too fast, and I can’t keep up”…. were all a few of her excuses.

And I definitely had good answers to all of her objections… but she still wouldn’t budge. Even though she had the skill to make the products for this business, even though she had my Internet business knowledge at her disposal for free, even though she was unemployed at the time… and an extra $60K – $84K a year would be a GOOD financial increase for anybody… she didn’t want to take it.

In my opinion, the intelligent idea that she had… was like a gift and a blessing from God that was sent down her way Priority Mail… and in my opinion, she took the package and marked it, “Return Back to Sender — Wrong Address”. It kind of irked me to a degree.

But when I thought deeply about it… it would be VERY arrogant and ignorant of me to say that someone isn’t successful… because they’re not doing what I would be doing. I mean, as long as a person is happy, content, and full of joy in situation; and their decision(s) doesn’t affect me — who am I (or anybody else) to say anything about it?

If a person works at Burger King for 20 years, flipping fries and is happy… then I am happy for them. If a person only has a 3rd grade education and is content with that level… then more power to them!

I was also reminded of a sermon I heard a few years back… by a powerful teacher, Bishop Gary McIntosh.

Although I forgot the specifics and the words of his message, I remember the main theme of it. In essence he stated this:

In order for you to achieve great things in life, you have got to WANT it BAD enough! If you don’t want it bad enough, then the PAIN that you have to go through and ENDURE through… in order to get to that PLEASURE at the end of the road… will not be worth the painful process you have to go through.

Read that top paragraph again and again and again… until it sinks down into your spirit!

Basically, my friend didn’t want the business bad enough… and so was unwilling to go through the PAIN of uncertainty and the fear of the unknown… in order to attain the PLEASURE of financial freedom of time and prosperity.

And as long as she is happy in the state that she’s at now, then there is NO reason why I (or anybody else) should say anything negative about that decision!

Think about this quick example:

We all know that for the most part, if a person gets a higher education in the form of getting a college degree (or technical education)… they are more likely to be financially stronger & wealthier than those who have only a high school education.

But for many people the PAIN of the process that they have to go through in order to get that education, stops them fast in their tracks!

The PLEASURE of getting an education is that you will generally make a higher income, have a less labor-intensive job, have more employment choices and opportunities, and with the extra money — you can have more in terms of the house you live in, vehicles you drive, clothes you wear; you can give more to people who are in need; and you can save money for your older days and leave an inheritance for your kids when you pass away.

The PAIN of getting an education, however, is you have to spend a substantial amount of time in school or technical education (2 to 10 years) depending on what you’re trying to do. The time that you do spend in school, is time that you are not able to work… and so you make less money during that time period you are going to school.

You have the PAIN and frustration of having to study, remember equations and theories and all that other good stuff…

If that wasn’t good enough for pain — then on top of that, the money you have to spend (or repay at a later date) for your education, can be in the tens (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars. Ouch!

If the PLEASURE of a person being a healthy weight (not underweight or overweight), being complimented by others, and living a long life… doesn’t outweigh the PAIN of getting to that pleasure… (cutting out all that delicious fried foods and sweets, taking time out of our busy days to exercise, etc.)… then the PLEASURE which is at the end of next week… is NOT worth the PAIN that I have to go through this week.

But in the end — you have to decide if the temporary, short-term PAIN you have to go through… is worth you going through… in order to achieve a long-lasting, long-term PLEASURE at the end of the road. If the PAIN outweighs the PLEASURE in your mind, you will not go after the thing you desire — because quite simply, you just don’t want it bad enough!

This can work the opposite way also… sometimes temporary PLEASURE can lead to permanent PAIN.

I remember when I was between the ages of 19 – 21 or 22, I used to do some pretty crazy stuff (if you all knew the full extent of what I did — you probably would unsubscribe from this blog right now!). One of the “pleasures” that I can reveal that I did, was I loved to go to parties and get drunk!

I didn’t drink casually or the light stuff (beer, wine coolers)… when I drank, I drank to get tore up from the floor up. I’m talking about Tequila, Vodka, and I probably would’ve drank Rubbing Alcohol on a good day… if you offered it to me me back then in a shot glass.

I liked the very temporary PLEASURE of not being “accountable” or “responsible” for what I said, what I did, how I approached girls, or how I acted… because being drunk or buzzed makes you feel like that!

But many times afterwards, I would drive home miles drunk as a punk… and it was truly the blessings of God I didn’t hit anything, kill anyone, or get ticketed by cops.

But some long-lasting PAIN that I endured after the pleasure left (besides a nasty hangover the next morning)… was I couldn’t really keep a job, so I couldn’t pay my bills… I was always on edge… and I was terribly depressed for some time.

In many of our cases… the temporary PLEASURES and vices that we might indulge in, or even think of indulging in (smoking and shooting up drugs, cheating on our spouses, getting drunk, having sex with anything that moves, etc.)… by no means ever outweighs the permanent and lasting PAIN that those momentary pleasures can bring us (death, jail, divorce, half your check in the form of child support, AIDS/HIV/and other fun mushroom-like diseases, etc.).

As you continue on with this week friend… remember that in all aspects of life, make sure that if you want to go after something GREAT in life… there will always be PAIN involved in the process of getting there. But many times, it’s definitely worth, so keep on going and don’t stop! And remember, be careful of what kind of temporary “pleasures” you indulge in tonight… because many times you will be facing the pain of that decision for the next 20-30 years of your life!

The Choice is Always Yours!

One thing that affects many people in this world is this fact: When things go wrong or awry in MOST people’s life…. many of us have the tendency to “point the finger”, and blame somebody else.

Think about about… have you ever blamed a teacher for getting a bad grade in school… when it was really your fault, because you didn’t study hard enough?

Have you ever blamed other people, for your bad attitude… or perhaps for a mistake that was TOTALLY your fault… when you VERY well know you have control over your own actions and emotions?

Have you ever blamed a merchant or the bank for a bounced check… or a overdraft on a debit card purchase… when it was really your fault, because you spent more money than was in your checking account?

If any of these things has ever happened to you… don’t get mad or ashamed… because they have ALL happened to me!

As positive, abundant people, who grow better on a daily basis… we must learn to take RESPONSIBILITY for our own actions. Although things, the environment, the people that are around us may make things difficult… in the end, whether we win or lose, succeed or fail… is all in our hands.

This day my friend, please understand that the choice is ALWAYS yours! Whether you choose to win or lose, whether you chooce to succeed or fail… the ball is ALWAYS in your court… you are ALWAYS in control.

Make the VERY best of every situation that you face in life… and accept responsibility for the good or the bad choices you make. But whatever happens in the end… know that YOU are the Master of the choices that you make.

Be blessed and have a GREAT weekend!

If You’re Not Ready to Change for the Better… then DON’T Read This!

Earlier this week, my good friend and old college classmate from Oklahoma State U, Jasper Nhira, tagged myself and about 25 of his other Facebook friends in a VERY intriguing note that he wrote… that was short, concise, to the point, and on time!

So after reading this powerful note he wrote… I decided to take a week’s vacation from writing, and send it to the 200+ members of this Facebook group… and the hundreds more that follow the daily motivational blog at TodayAbundance.com

Enjoy!

My Decision To Change, What About You?

If what you’ve been doing isn’t working then do something new.

I’ve been reflecting on where I am and where I want to be and I’m not completely satisfied with where I’m at. Don’t get me wrong, I’m thankful for where God has brought me but I know I could be further.

Some people say that the best athletes and people in general are those who are never satisfied with where they’re at but constantly seek to be better. I guess that’s how I feel?

But instead of just whining and complaining I began to look at ME to see what I’m doing that’s holding me back from this place called “further.” That place is different for each one of us but for me “further” is a wife, a home, a career, a business, a ministry, the list goes on and on.

The main thing is that I am no longer waiting on a mystical movement from God or anyone else that will bring the things I have just listed to me. I’m going to take heed to James 2:17, “Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone.”

I am going to work harder then I’ve ever worked before to get what I want out of this life. God is still my source and He will give me favor and guidance but he will not do the work for me, therefore I’m going to work, work and work hard for the things that He and I want for myself. I hope you do the same

Make the decision to Change!

The Second Ark

Here is a note that was tagged to me on Facebook from a friend, named Samson Ojo:

In the year 2008, the Lord came unto Noah, who was now living in the United States, and said:
Once again, the earth has become wicked and over-populated, and I see the end of all flesh before me.

Build another Ark and save 2 of every living thing along with a few good humans.

He gave Noah the blueprints, saying: You have 6 months to build the Ark before I will start the unending rain for 40 days and 40 nights.

Six months later, the Lord looked down and saw Noah weeping in his yard – but no Ark.

Noah! He roared, I’m about to start the rain! Where is the Ark?
Forgive me, Lord, begged Noah, ‘but things have changed.

I needed a building permit.

I’ve been arguing with the inspector about the need for a sprinkler system.

My neighbors claim that I’ve violated the neighborhood zoning laws by building the Ark in my yard and exceeding the height limitations.
We had to go to the Development Appeal Board for a decision.

Then the Department of Transportation demanded a bond be posted for the future costs of moving power lines
and other overhead obstructions, to clear the passage for the Ark’s move to the sea.
I told them that the sea would be coming to us, but they would hear nothing of it.

Getting the wood was another problem. There’s a ban on cutting local trees in order to save the spotted owl.

I tried to convince the environmentalists that I needed the wood to save the owls – but no go!

When I started gathering the animals, an animal rights group sued me.
They insisted that I was confining wild animals against their will.
They argued the accommodations were too restrictive, and it was cruel and inhumane
to put so many animals in a confined space.

Then the EPA ruled that I couldn’t build the Ark until they’d conducted an environmental impact study on your proposed flood.

I’m still trying to resolve a complaint with the Human Rights Commission on how many minorities I’m supposed to hire for my building crew.

Immigration and Naturalization are checking the green-card status of most of the people who want to work.

The trades unions say I can’t use my sons. They insist I have to hire only Union workers with Ark-building experience.

To make matters worse, the IRS seized all my assets, claiming I’m trying to leave the country illegally with endangered species.

So, forgive me, Lord, but it would take at least 10 years for me to finish this Ark.

Suddenly the skies cleared, the sun began to shine, and a rainbow stretched across the sky.

Noah looked up in wonder and asked,
‘You mean you’re not going to destroy the world?’

‘No,’ said the Lord.
‘The government beat me to it.

How to see the GOOD in EVERY Bad Situation (Really!)

In the United States where I live at… there is a time of year that we Americans enjoy (even more than Christmas and other holiday seasons). Can you guess what it is?

Tax Season!!! Yeaaaah!

Okay, so I was being pretty cynical and sarcastic when I made that remark… because we Americans HATE paying taxes… and now that I think of it, all of you who are

living in other parts of the world in Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East and are reading this… probably hate paying taxes too!

During this past week as I was getting my business taxes done, Mr. Positive (a.k.a. Daniel Wiafe) was feeling pretty negative and hateful towards “the Man”… because of the amount of time I had to spend in preparing all the forms, figuring out how much I had to pay to the government, and because the IRS audited me for the year 2007, saying I owed them $xx,xxx… when I really owed them about $500.

So yes, it was a bad situation… and yes, I was negative and somewhat vexed for a couple days… but I was reminded of a phrase that a young Israelite man in Egypt once said:

“Even though you planned evil against me, God planned good to come out of it. This was to keep many people alive, as He is doing now.” (Genesis 50:20)

This young man’s name was Joseph, and he was the second-highest in command in the Egyptian empire… behind the great Pharoah himself. This was quite an accomplishment for anyone… but the path that lead Joseph to that destination, was remarkable in it’s own!

Here is Joe’s story. As you read it, ask yourself if Joseph had a good reason to be mad and angry… at any point in the story:

Thirteen years previous… Joseph was a cocky 17-year-old teenager living in Israel, who was adored by his father… but hated by his brothers (who were jealous that their father showed more favor to Joseph, than them). Long story short, some of his brothers wanted to kill him… but one of Joseph’s older brothers convinced everyone else to just sell him to some slave traders… and tell the father that Joseph got killed and eaten by wild beasts.

So they sold him to some Egyptian slave traders and told the father that Joseph was dead and eaten by wild beasts. Did Joseph have a reason to be mad and negative? Yes he did.

The slave traders took Joseph and sold him to a well-to-do, influential man named Potiphar. God showed favor to Joseph even in that bad situation… and caused Joe to have favor with his master… to the point where Joseph was promoted to be in charge over all the servants in a short-time.

The problem for our hero, was that he was a young, strapping, handsome-looking fellow… and Mrs. Potiphar (the wife) liked what she saw… and came after Joseph sexually.

Joseph, being a man of God and a man of morals… denied her strong and aggressive advances, and it EVEN came to a point when Mrs. Potiphar bluntly demanded to the young man, “Sleep with me now”… and Joseph did what every single, young man in his predicament should probably do.

He RAN and didn’t look back!

In running away from Mrs. Potiphar, she grabbed and tore off his robe… and told all the other servants that the Israelite slave tried to rape her… and when her husband came home… his fury RAGED against Joseph, and he had the young man thrown into prison! Did Joseph have a reason to be mad and negative at this point? I imagine he did.

Joseph was thrown into prison… and again, being the favored man of God he was… he was shown favor by the head jailer of the dungeon. During his time behind bars… Joseph interpreted dreams for two of the Pharoah’s officials who were thrown into jail, and lo and behold… Joseph’s predictions came true for both of the men.

One of the men PROMISED Joseph, that if he ever got out… he would tell Pharoah about Joseph (and get him set free). The man got out of jail… but forgot about Joseph… and Joseph sat rotting in jail for TWO more years. Did Joseph have a reason to be mad and negative at that? You better believe he did!

Two years later… the Pharoah had a dream, and none of the wise men in Egypt could interpret it… and then the official remembered about Joseph’s special talent for interpreting dreams… and told Pharoah about him.

Pharoah was intrigued… and commanded Joseph to be brought up out of the dungeon, bathed and shaved. Joseph proceeded to interpret the King of Egypt’s dreams and this was the prediction:

“The land of Egypt will go through seven (7) years of plenty and abundance… and then after that, there will be seven (7) years of world-wide famine and drought. My advice to you is to find someone to collect all the grain and food during the 7 years of plenty… so that the people in the land of Egypt won’t starve to death during the 7 years of drought and famine.”

Who do you think Pharoah put in charge? He put Joseph, the former slave and the former prisoner in charge. He gave Jospeh a new name, a mansion, a beautiful wife, wealth, and put him at 2nd command over the ENTIRE Egyptian empire… if he would oversee the project of saving up grain during the 7 years of abundance, thus saving the land of Egypt from certain destruction!

Nice turn of luck for Joseph wasn’t it?

The seven years went by quickly, and enough food was saved up for Egypt and the surrounding lands. During the years of famine… people from all over Egypt and the world came to Joseph, who sold them grain and food to keep them alive. Amongst those who came, was Joseph’s brothers! And when Joseph’s brothers saw him, they didn’t EVEN recognize him…. can you believe it?

Here was Joseph’s BIG chance to get even with these worthless “scumbags” who sold him into slavery!

No, he didn’t take it there… because he would have been just as wrong as they were 13 years earlier.

He took them aside (after playing a few tricks on them) and what he told them in essence was this:

“Yeah, you meant evil and bad towards me because you hated me… but God knew what He was doing in the long run, because if I hadn’t gone through all the hell I went through… I wouldn’t have been promoted to Pharoah’s right-hand man, who is in charge of food distribution… and all of you brothers and the rest of my family would have STARVED to death. So yes, I am happy I went through my mess… because God brought something GOOD out of the bad situation you put me in!”

So basically, I began to turn my attitude around and get joyful and positive… yeah it stinks to have to deal with a bunch of tax headaches and hassles for the short-term… but I am glad that God has blessed me to even be able to bring in income, and not have to be tied down with debt, and not have to be confined to a 9 to 5 job, and to have a happy and a peaceful home, and to have a new baby on the way!

Whatever may be going on in your life that may be a negative situation, be thankful for it… and look for ways that God can use it to make you stronger, wiser, more faithful, and a better person through it.

Through every horrible and dark situation that affilicts us in life… there is always at least a little light and a little good that can come out of ANY situation… even if you lost your job, even if you lost your mind… and yes, even if you have lost a loved one!

God is good in ALL situations… and so His good, will always OUTWEIGH any evil… if you are able to look for it.

This week… look at the glass as half-full, instead of half-empty… walk in abundance, be blessed… and look for the GOOD, in every bad situation!

Taking Authority Over Your Emotions (The Anger Prayer)

Emotions are an area that many Christians don’t understand. Because of this, Believers often allow their emotions to lead them. As a result, emotionally-led decisions take them on a course that is out of the will of God for their lives.

While God gave every human being emotions, it is critical that we get control over negative emotions and subject them to the Word of God. Make these daily confessions so that you can subject your feelings to God’s Word and make the right decisions:

Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me healthy emotions. I declare that negative emotions will not impact my decisions, neither will they dictate my responses to difficult circumstances.

I will submit my feelings to You in every situation that I encounter in life. You have given me authority over the power of the enemy, and I declare that nothing shall by any means hurt me, including people and situations that try to negatively influence my emotions.

When I feel overwhelmed by life, or troubled by negative emotions, like Jesus, I will pray and keep moving forward. I bind depression, anxiety, worry, fear, doubt, anger, rejection and any other negative emotion that tries to attack my mind. I possess power, love and a sound mind.

I thank You, Father, that I walk in peace, joy and the comfort of the Holy Ghost. I have the mind of Christ and my emotions are controlled by the Word of God. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Bad Attitude is a Choice

We all face times in our lives… when certain people, or problems, or situations rub us the wrong way and we “go there”…  meaning specifically, we get a bad attitude.

Sometimes even in moments when we feel like things are out of our hands, or we’re confused… we can jump into a BAD attitude.

When we get a bad attitude, it shows. Your whole demanor can change, you are short with your words, you are easy to vex… pretty much, it’s NOT a very becoming snapshot of you.

But whatever the cause of your bad attitude is, please remember two (2) things…

(1) Having a Bad Attitude (or Good Attitude) is YOUR Choice

We are masters of our own emotion, so never feel that just because you are “hot under the collar”, that there is no way you can be in control of your emotions.

Next time you get irate and mad… try breathing in and out deeply, counting to ten, removing yourself from the stressful situation, and even writing and journaling about the reason why you are mad.

Silly as it sounds, they work!

(2) You Don’t Have to Keep a Bad Attitude

Just like if a person buys you a pair of shoes that are too big… or if a shirt that doesn’t fit, as long as you don’t claim it (by removing the tags or using it to the point where it is non-returnable)… you can return that piece of merchandise that does not fit, by having the receipt.

The same is true with a Bad Attitude… that is a “gift” that comes from the enemy. You have a paper receipt (the promises in the Word of God)… that allows you to return this “bad gift” right back to the store where it was bought!

Until NEXT time, be positive, have a good attitude, and walk in God’s blessings today!

How to NEVER Succeed in ANYTHING in Life! (Read on…)

Ouch, that must be the most NEGATIVE title I’ve ever given any of my weekly TodayAbundance messages… but it’ll make sense in the end, *TRUST ME!*

Okay let’s face it… if you’ve ever read more than one book or article on motivation or inspiration, you’ve surely come across some titles that make it seem like being a success in life is a simple ONE step process… and that if you JUST find the right “magical” formula for success, all your problems and issues will fade away… world peace will envelope the whole entire earth and bring a standstill to all these world wars… and all of our unfortunate brothers and sisters starving to death in 3rd world countries will be fed.

Well the news is this: There is NOT a magical formula for success… and there never will be, because success for everyone is different.

Webster’s Dictionary defines success as “attaining wealth, fame, fortune, status”… but the great motivator Earl Nightengale once said on his recording, “The Strangest Secret”, that the definition of success is summed up by this definition: “To progressively move forward towards a worthy goal that you set for yourself”

Think about that. Being a success in this guy’s point-of-view is “Progressively moving towards a worthy goal, that I set for myself”.

Which definition do you like better? Basically in a nutshell, Webster’s tells you that you are NOT a success unless you are either rich, famous, or popular. Webster’s “success” tells you that you are only at the top of your game if you are focused on attaining worldly items… and the love of people (who probably don’t care anything about you in the first place).

Let’s be real… money, fame, and fortune is good… and for me to tell anyone to NOT have money would be totally foolish, but we have to get ourselves to the point where money (or our drive to acquire money, if we’re broke) is NOT our first priority… or our measurement of success. If money, fame, and fortune was all that people needed to be a total success… then why do we hear about rich & famous people committing suicide, jumping from relationship to relationship, abusing drugs?

Yeah, I know… it’s a good question, isn’t it?

Is that the type of success we truely want? Even if you had a hundred million dollars in the bank account now… how long would you be happy? How long would all the big, fancy stuff you bought with your money keep you happy? Our wants are always a lust that can NEVER be satisfied, because we will always want more!

Our desire to attain more money should just be a MEANS TO AN END, and not the end itself… meaning that I desire to get more money, so that I can satisfy my goals that I set for myself… and past that if I get more or less money, who cares.

The Bible says in 1 Timothy 6:10 that, “The LOVE of money, is the root of all evil”. Notice it DID NOT say “Money is the root of all evil”… but it said “The LOVE of money is the root of all evil”.

Where our heart is… that is where our treasure is at… and where our treasure is at, that is where we’ll find out how we can be a success in life… and truely enjoy it!

Nightengale’s definition pretty much says that as long as you (1) Have a goal or goals set for yourself…. and (2) You are actively moving towards accomplishing your goal… you are a success.

So a woman whose goal is to be the perfect mother to her 3 children, and loves her kids unconditionally… is a SUCCESS.

The student who aims to the best in his class, and studies like crazy to achieve this goal… is a SUCCESS.

The woman who desires to be an entrepreneur, and studies everything she can about management, marketing, and accounting… is a SUCCESS.

The pastor who aims to be the best pastor he can be, and actively seeks to see the people healed both spiritually and naturally in his church… is a SUCCESS.

Our success is NEVER measured by anybody else… it is NEVER measured by anyone else’s standards… the only person who even has the right ruler or yardstick to measure how far you will succeed… is you and only you. Not your parents, not your friends, not co-workers, but you and ONLY you.

You are a master of your own destiny… and you will NEVER have true success if you are trying to chase someone else’s success. You’ll end up being just like a dog who always chases his tail… and NEVER catches it.

Make goals for yourself to attain today… and then ACTIVELY work at achieving them, and then when you have achieved them, set more goals for yourself!

I typically tell people to set at least ONE goal in the 4 primary areas of life:

(1) Spiritual Goal (ex. Pray for at least 15 minutes every morning, Read the entire Bible in a year)
(2) Relationship Goal (ex. Give my wife flowers everyday, Have dinner with my parents every Sunday)
(3) Financial Goal (ex. start a Internet business by May, make $75,000 a year by 2010)
(4) Physical Fitness Goal (ex. lose 15 lbs. by May, bench press 200 lbs. by December 31st)

You will ALWAYS be a success when you set goals for yourself that you are passionate about and you actively seek to accomplish them. It will give you a NEW sense of vigor… and excitement as you accomplish each one of your goals.

You will ALWAYS be a success, when you focus on attaining enough money to provide a very comfortable life for yourself, family, and loved ones… get yourself out of debt… and provide long-term financial security for yourself. Past that, use your excess money & time for a higher calling — such as helping people who are less fortunate and less blessed than you are, and you will be a SUCCESS in God’s eyes!

Until next time, be blessed, be good to yourself and others, and walk in God’s rich abundance for your life… today!

When You Fall Down… Always Get Back Up!

“A righteous man falls seven times… but he ALWAYS gets back up!” (Proverbs 24:16)

Even though you may fall flat on your face… as the Australian man w/ no limbs (Nick Vujicic) in the YouTube video sets the example… ALWAYS get back up, and REFUSE to stay down!

Be blessed!

Need a Hug? Your Brotherly Love Can Rescue Somebody!

The following story was sent to me by Samson Ojo, founder of INSPIRATION ZONE, a Facebook group:

I heard an amazing story about a set of twins who were just a few days old. One of them had been born with a serious heart condition and wasn’t expected to live. A few days went by and one baby’s health continued to deteriorate, she was close to death.

A nurse at the hospital asked if she could go against hospital policy and put the babies in the same incubator together, rather than in individual incubators. It was a big ordeal, but finally the doctor consented to allow the twins to be placed side by side in the same incubator, just as they had been in their mother’s womb.

Somehow, the healthy baby managed to reach over and put his arm around his little sick sister. Before long, and for no apparent reason, her heart began to stabilize and heal. Her blood pressure came up to normal. Her temperature soon followed suit. Little by little she got better, and today they are both perfectly healthy children. A newspaper caught wind of the story and photographed the twins while still in the incubator, embraced in a hug. they ran the photo with the caption, “The Rescuing Hug”.

There is an interesting story about two siblings in the Bible that takes place on the pages of the Book of Genesis, Chapter 4.

These two siblings are Cain and Abel… and as many of you know, Abel (the younger brother) was killed by Cain (the older brother) in a fit of rage and jealousy. What was the reason for Cain knocking off his li’l brother?

He was mad at Abel because the Lord accepted Abel’s sacrifice to him… over Cain’s sacrifice.

That gives a new insight to sibling rivalry, don’t it? I have a brother exactly 10 years older than me… and a brother who is 8 years younger than me… and last time I check, I haven’t gotten mad enough at either one of them to kill ’em!

The key thing about this story that stuck out to me was this: When God confronted Cain and inquired about the whereabouts of Abel, Cain’s response was cold and precise:

“Am I my brother’s keeper?”

And several thousands of years after this phrase was uttered by Cain to God… we (in this day and age) are still muttering the same words in different contexts.

“I am not responsible for that!”

“Don’t look at me… it’s his/her fault!”

“I don’t care what happens to you… as long as I’m okay and my business is taken care of, it’s all good!”

These are some of the phrases that we think and that we say… and in essence, we are saying to God and to mankind as a whole, “No, I am NOT my brother’s/sister’s keeper… I don’t care what happens to him/her!”

As we seen in the story about the two newborn babies… if the nurse hadn’t placed the healthy twin next to the dying twin in the incubator… the sickly twin would have surely died.

The reason why the dying baby turned around and lived… was because of the LOVING embrace of her sibling. Without this love, affection, or care…. the baby surely would have died.

So this week, when you see someone who is hurting… or needs help… needs a shoulder to cry on… or is in desperate need of love, be a brother or a sister to them… and watch God WORK MIRACLES in their life, as well as your own!
