When is it Okay to Hold Grudges? The Results will SHOCK you!

If you’re like me (which I’m sure you are)… somebody at LEAST once in your lifetime has done you wrong or have caused great pain to you… either emotionally or physically.

Yes, I know… you’re probably thinking, “If only I had a dollar for each time someone did me wrong… I’d be on a beach right now in Tahiti, basking in the sun, without a care or worry in the world!”

Alright, maybe that’s just my fantasy that I’d fulfill if I was SUPER rich… but don’t miss the point. We have all been victims of “terrible” people who have done us wrong in the past, perhaps might be doing us wrong at this very moment… and with great assurity, I can say that all of us will no doubt get done wrong by people in the future!

But does that give us the right to hold grudges against people?

What is a grudge? It is simply defined as, “holding ill feelings on the inside -or- having resentment strong enough to justify retaliation”.

Think about that… do you hold ill feelings towards people? Do you feel like “getting even” with some folks?

Because someone spoke disrespectfully to you… or called you out of your name, is it okay to hold a grudge against them?

Because someone stole from you, lied to you, cheated you… does that give us the right to hold a grudge against them?

The fact that a family member or someone close to a person harmed them either physically or sexually in their youth or in their innocence… as wicked as that is… does that justify a person holding a boiling grudge for the next 50 to 70 years of their life?

Consider what the Bible says:

“Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. (Colossians 3:13)”


What God lets us know in His Word is that yes, all of us as human beings have been disrespected, done wrong by people, and seriously grieved by others… but forgive those knuckleheads who diss you, because I… your heavenly Father have forgiven you of the wrongs you have committed against Me.

You see anytime we don’t walk in love towards other people, anytime we lie to others [even white lies], anytime we cheat someone, gossip behind people’s backs… anytime we have lust in our hearts, or are jealous of others, or curse God’s name or use the name of Jesus in vain… we are grieving our Creator, but yet our God has the ability to “turn the other cheek” and forgive us and keep moving.

It is a well-known fact that the HUGE majority of time that we hold grudges against people who do us wrong… it does more harm to us, than to the person who committed the wrong against us!

By holding in the unforgiveness, we develop ulcers, high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, negative emotions, etc… while the other person just keeps on living life, smiling and having a grand ole time!

It is a necessity for us to forgive others… not primarily for them, but for YOU! If you hold grudges on the inside… it will impact you and the people who truely love you, and have to live everyday around you.

So pretty much, for your own health (both physical and spiritual), happiness, and well-being you owe it to yourself to forgive people that have done you wrong (even if they are the most wicked person on earth in your own opinion). Doing this will FREE you from walking around in anger, meanness, and negative attitudes!


“Okay, you got me. It’s NOT okay to have grudges. So how do I forgive..?”

Don’t worry, I’ll tell you in 5 EASY steps to help you start on your journey of forgiveness:

(1) Realize the hate you feel towards your enemy does him/her NO harm — not even the slightest.
(2) Make a list of good things that have emerged as a result of the bad a person did to you.
(3) Press <STOP> on the DVD Player and don’t replay the negative event in your mind over and over again.
(4) Stop telling people over & over again about how somebody did you wrong. Let the past be the past, so that the future has room to fit in your life.
(5) Untie yourself from the person who did you so wrong.
Many times our hatred for others who have literally devastated us, literally “ties” us to them. It is up to you to break that bondage of hate. You don’t need to be connected by hate anymore…. because God wants you to be free!

So You Had a Bad Day?

LOL… Does that YouTube video above describe you?

Once again, it’s MONDAY… and today millions of people from coast to coast in America (including you), have jumped out of bed, with a huge smile on their face, excited and leaping with joy… with the sun shining bright through their windows… lovely bluebirds chirping beautiful songs in the trees outside… waking up to the fresh, tantalizing aroma of mountain-grown coffee!


Because we get to start yet another WONDERFUL workweek at our job, business, or school!

Okay, so the stats are probably only about 1 in a million people who enjoy Monday mornings (and you are probably not that 1 in a million)

And that scenario above is probably more in tune to a Walt Disney movie… or an old 1980’s Folgers commercial.

The rest of us roll out of bed, with crust in our eyes… stank breath… cursing and complaining… kicking the dog… the alarm clock blaring in our ears… rushing to work because we overslept and have to be at work in 13 minutes.

Life can be so HORRIBLE… our weekends (Friday evenings, Saturdays, Sundays) seem to RUSH by in 1 day… and our weekdays (Monday through Friday) seem to CREEP by at a snail’s pace of 10 days.

Again, I say, life can be so HORRIBLE… or does it really have to be?

God declares in his word, “As a man thinks (believes) in his heart (mind), so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7). Don’t worry ladies, God isn’t leaving you out… when He says “man”, He’s talking about “mankind”, which includes you… so go ahead and let out a big sigh of relief. *WHEW!*

Whether we have a good day, bad day, wonderful day, or horrible day… depends entirely on YOU and nobody else!

It doesn’t depend on how your co-workers treat you at the job… it doesn’t depend on whether you have enough money in the account so that your car payment doesn’t bounce, AGAIN… it doesn’t even matter whether Obama is elected tomorrow, or if McCain is elected tomorrow.

Whatever you believe in your mind or your heart about YOURSELF… that is what will frame your entire day or week that is yet in front of you, for the POSITIVE… or for the NEGATIVE. Your mindset and emotions RIGHT NOW are the fabric from which your future will be sewn from TODAY and TOMORROW.

If you believe that everyone is against you… they WILL be against you. If you believe you will never achieve anything in life… you will NEVER achieve anything. If you believe that today is going to be another painful day… it is GOING to be a painful day. If you believe in boogie men living under your bed… guess what? Well, I’ll leave that one alone…

But honestly, I think when we get down to the point and the nitty gritty of things… 999,999 out of 1 million WANT to have a great day, and want to love life, and want to have joy… but their thoughts don’t reflect this…

So go ahead and try this today… if you want to change your life today at mind-shattering speeds… and start seeing the glass as half-full (and not half-empty), try this prescription that Dr. Daniel is going to prescribe to you today for AT LEAST 30 days… and take it every morning when you wake up. I promise, it’ll taste better than Robittisum (I guess everything tastes better than that stuff!)

Your Prescription: Start calling yourself what you want your day [and life] to look like.

Yes, you read that right… I know your momma gave you a good name at birth, but God is going to give you another name today… so that you can walk in some abundance, today!

* My mother named me Joan, but today… I AM Joy!
* My mother named me Blake, but today… I AM Blessed!
* My mother named me Winnie, but today… I AM Wealthy!
* My mother named me Henry, but today… I AM Happy!
* My mother named me Simone, but today… I AM Strong!
* My mother named me Victor, but today… I AM Victorious!
* My mother named me Constance, but today… I AM a Conqueror!

You see where I’m going with this… I could keep on going on and on telling you who your heavenly Father wants you to be! You think I’m crazy by saying this, but it WORKS if you’ll work it!

God did it when Abraham was sent by faith to sacrifice his only beloved son Isaac, on a mountain in Genesis 22. God provided a ram in the bush for Abraham to kill in place of Isaac… and God said His name at that point was Jehovah Jirah (I AM a Provider). God’s many names reflect who He is and what He will do for his children, and include Jehovah Rophe (I AM a Healer), Jehovah Shalom (I AM Peace), Jehovah Tsidkenu (I AM Your RIghteousness).

If God can do this… then we can too, as we were ALL made in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26).

So today, have an AWESOME day. Find out what your TRUE name is, and call yourself AND your day by your TRUE name today and for the next 30 days… and until tomorrow, walk in God’s Abundance today!

Only the Strong Survive!

“I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:12,13

Think about where you, your family, and your loved ones are at at this present stage of life today… Really, just take a few seconds… maybe about 15-30 seconds and think deeply about it. Where are you at in life right now? How are things going for you in this time of economic crisis… when businesses are closing down, and millions are being laid off across the country?

How is your home and family life going? How is your spiritual life going right now at this very moment?

Are you happy? Sad? Confused? Excited to be living? Depressed? Slightly constipated (LOL)?

Thought about it enough? GREAT! Go ahead and give yourself a round of applause and celebration no matter where you are at life right now. Go ahead and look crazy foolish at your computer in front of your co-workers as you read this and clap your hands!

Okay, so I know you’re thinking this exact same thought… “Daniel, are you crazy man?! Why should I give myself a round of applause“. This holds true especially if you are at a low point… or going through difficult times in life, household, job, or relationships right now… why is there ANY reason for me to celebrate? Why is there ANY reason for me to praise God?

Keep reading as I tell you why… I promise you at the end of this blog post, you’ll be jumping up and down praising God. [In my BEST Sarah Palin voice] “You betcha, you will!”

Imagine yourself living back in the turn of the millenium about 2,000 years ago. Yes I know, NOT having an iPod, television, running water, or fast food WOULD suck pretty bad… but please entertain me, and imagine yourself back in those good ole’ days.

You have been giving a once-in-a-lifetime job to do by your boss… and you do it to the best of your ability, to the best of your knowledge, to the best of your talent, and most importantly… you do your job to the best of your strength.

Now think of this… you currently work at a job where all your co-workers respect you and your bosses love you! You are well known and loved in your community because of your title. It’s a high-paying job, there’s pretty much no struggle in your life, no anxiety in your life… you are absolutely Ballin’ (even though you don’t have an iPod, running water, or McDonalds).

Now think of this… you find wind that your company does VERY shady & horrible things in the community… and you know in your heart of hearts that that company is WRONG and you decide to pack up and leave and get a new job.

You are blessed and highly favored… so of course you get a new job right away!

Your new job requires that you spend most of your life traveling across the country…, you have to sell a service that most of your customers don’t think that they need…, you have to sleep in ratty, damp, rank motels each night…, oh and get this… occasionally your customers attempt to stone you to death and throw you off of cliffs!

Hold up your hand if you’re ready to turn in your resume and apply for this wonderful job.

This in essence, is what the Apostle Paul faced in his time. He was given the most important job in the world (to preach God’s Good News that Christ came to save all men & women who will give their lives to him)… and in many cases… Paul was ridiculed, he was beaten, savagely attacked, mocked at every turn, didn’t have much money in his pockets, his friends abandoned him when he needed them the most… and this was on GOOD days!

Kind of puts a new perspective to us when we complain about not being able to buy that new plasma TV from Best Buy… or that hot, new dress from J.C. Penneys… doesn’t it?

Paul knew what is was like to be wealthy, he knew what is was like to be everyone’s friend, he knew what it was like to sleep in a warm bed, and he knew what is was like to live the high life.

On the flip side of the coin… her also knew what it was like to be dirt-broke poor, he knew what is was like to be hated, he knew what is was like to sleep in the cold and the rain, and he knew what it was like to be hunted by the same people who were once his friends.

In Philipians 4:12-13… he makes the proud declaration, that NO matter what position he is in life, NO matter what happens to him, NO matter who loves him or hates him, NO matter how happy or sad he is in life… HE WILL BE CONTENT AND HAVE JOY. Why? Because “I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strenghtens Me!”

No matter how horrible the economy… have excitement knowing that God will give you the strength of satisfaction that even if you lose this job or your business, he will provide you with a new one!

No matter if your marriage is struggling or troubled… be happy knowing that God will give you (and your spouse) the strength of heart to forgive the other person, and the strength of healing to mend anything that happened in the past!

No matter if you are depressed in life, and think you should be farther ahead in life than where you are at now… have the strength of JOY knowing that Psalms 30:5 declares that “Weeping may endure for a night, but YOUR joy comes in the morning”.

Be encouraged today and full of life knowing that you can’t do it all in your own strength… but when you come to a breaking point when you feel you can’t make it another day or continue on… that you can depend of the STRENGHT OF GOD… and He will LIFT you through EVERY problem, provide for you, and replenish you!

Until next Monday, be blessed, man or woman of God and know this…. “You can do ALL things through Christ Jesus who Strengthens You!”
