Having the Mindset of a Millionaire #4 (Take Action!)

Take Action!

Take Action!

Happy Friday to you!

Today is the fourth post in our Financial Fridays series… in which we will devote this blog to covering wealth, finances, and money… all from a Godly perspective.

On the previous Friday, we talked about having a Millionaire Mindset… and the 4 IMPORTANT principles I personally have used to help my household attain financial freedom.

(1) Not Going Back to Crap!
(2) Educating Yourself!
(3) Believing in Yourself!
(4) Taking Action!

—-

Taking Action

Millionaires and those who are wealthy take action. They do not sleep on an idea. They do not get overly fearful… they simply do the only thing that they know how to do — which is to act, and act decisively!

Consider the following verse:

‘But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith BY WHAT I DO!’  (James 2:18)

People who do well financially are those who are not afraid to take chances or run away from the risks of life… but welcome them with a smile! As in most cases in life, the bigger the risk you take… the bigger the reward that is available for you. When you are able to fearlessly pursue opportunities that are before you… you will undoubtedly be rewarded financially.

It might not be tomorrow, it might not be next week or month, but I can guarantee you… those who take calculated risks… are able to receive bigger rewards in life!

DISCLAIMER:
Obviously I am not saying to be a fool… or a gambler… and take uncalculated risks. The very nature of anyone of us taking a risk… is that along with a chance of us getting a reward, we can also lose something.

So never take an uncalculated risk… and never take a risk that you cannot afford to take!

*Wheeew* That said, I can move on with this post… know that you’re not going to go to Las Vegas this weekend, and bet the whole farm… and lose it!

So you have a GREAT business idea? Or perhaps God has placed something awesome in your spirit for you to accomplish?

Get started right now and put some action into it. Don’t sit on the idea, don’t shelf it, because you will forget it… and the Bible tells us in Ecclesiastes 9:11 that “…time and chance happen to us all!”

When your chance comes in due time… ACT on it, or it will leave you and move to someone else who is ready to take action.

Move right now. Put out applications to that job you want, but are underqualified for! Fill out grants for that non-profit business you want to start. Write a business plan for that future million-dollar business you want to start! Go online and order yourself up some business cards…. for that business you haven’t even started up yet!

In doing this… you are displaying a huge act of faith, by putting action behind it!

Be blessed this weekend and let me know what you think… your comments are appreciated!

Having the Mindset of a Millionaire #3 (Believe in Yourself)

Believe in Yourself!

Believe in Yourself!

Happy Friday to you!

Today is the third post in our Financial Fridays series… in which we will devote this blog to covering wealth, finances, and money… all from a Godly perspective.

—-

Believing in Yourself

“As a man thinks (believes) in his heart (mind), so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7).

If you think negative thoughts… you will have a negative life overall… and if you think positive thoughts, you will have a positive life.

There is NO changing that formula.

That is why it is so vital for us to get in the right mindset about our finances and business pursuits and BELIEVE in ourselves.

Just because you feel like you don’t have the “right ingredients” to become financial successful and wealthy… doesn’t mean you can’t become wealthy!

Who says you need a 4-year business degree or a M.B.A. to start a multi-million dollar business? Ask college dropouts Bill Gates (founder of Microsoft) or Steve Jobs (founder of Apple)… and they’ll tell you otherwise!

Who says you are not old enough to be a success financially? Ask Ashley Qualls (founder of WhateverLife.com) who was making $70,000 a month… by the tender, old age of 14.

You see friend, it doesn’t matter if you are not “qualified” enough… nor does it matter if you are not “gifted” enough.. or even “smart” enough.

The only thing that matters is that you BELIEVE in yourself. Believe in the power, the annointing, and the favor that is resting on your shoulders… by your Heavenly Father, who believes in you, more than you could ever believe in yourself.

Don’t listen to what naysayers or doubters may say about you… or how they may shoot down your ideas… or how they don’t believe in you. They’re probably broke and unhappy themselves!

Believe
that you can become wealthy… and even become a millionaire.

Show faith in your belief, by getting ready for the blessings. Get educated and read books in the area of business or in the career that you would like to pursue.

Many times, God will bless me with an INCREDIBLE idea… but then it’s up to me to act on it! If I don’t act on it… it will be a blessing lost. Whenever God gives you an idea WRITE IT DOWN… and act on it, or somebody else will!

Have a GREAT weekend, and until Monday… be blessed and walk in God’s abundance for your life today!

Having the Mindset of a Millionaire #2 (Educate Yourself)

Celebrate Independance Day... by Becoming Financially Independant!

Celebrate Independance Day... by Becoming Financially Independant! Educate yourself by finding yourself mentors who have already gone, where you want to go!

Happy Friday to all you beautiful people out there in the world… I hope you are having a BLESSED day (considering the fact that for many of you, today marks the first day of a three day holiday weekend in the United States!)

Last Friday was the first of many in our Financial Fridays series… in which we will devote this blog to covering wealth, finances, and money… all from a Godly perspective.

Educating Yourself

Read the following words which were penned by King Solomon… the richest and wisest man of his days:

Listen to advice and accept instruction… and in the end YOU will be wise!” (Proverbs 19:20)

Whenever you make the decision that, “Yes… I want to be wealthy and have more than just ‘enough’ in my bank account,” you will need to put yourself around mentors who have achieved a much HIGHER success than you … so that the knowledge & wisdom that they have, will rub off and be imparted into you.

But for many of us, we can’t exactly jump on a plane and fly out to have dinner with a Warren Buffet… or go shoot some pool with a Bill Gates… or perhaps spend a day at the court with a Magic Johnson… so how do we get the advice and the instruction of some of these financial geniuses and gurus… so that we become wise?

You can easily afford a mentor by buying the books, videos, programs, courses, etc…. that they produce. This will provide you with MORE than enough information that you need to help start you on your road of financial independence!

Go to the money, finance, or business section of your local Borders… or Barnes & Nobles and read, read, read… and when you’re tired, take a break… and then READ some more!

If you’re lazy (like me)… and want to compliment your reading, try buying audiobooks… which are simply books that are recorded on CDs…. that allow you to conveniently listen to your mentor on the go in you car… or at your workplace.

Whatever you want to become in life, whether it be business, career, financial, spiritual, whatever… find the experts in that field… and grab up ALL the information that you can on them… and then buy up all the products they have produced and LEARN from them!

Don’t worry about spending a couple hundreds of dollars on this education. Remember… this is an investment in YOURSELF!

Also, start reading financial newspapers & magazines like the Wall Street Journal, Kiplingers, Entrepreneur Magazine… and start learning what different terms and words mean.

No, I’m not going to lie and tell you that reading all those financial magazines and papers are fun… because they are not!

But let the truth be told in my opinion… there is one thing that sucks even more than reading boring literature… and that is BEING BROKE!

Be blessed and have a GREAT holiday weekend… and walk in God’s abundance today!

Having the Mindset of a Millionaire #1 (Financial Fridays)

Why have a poverty mindset? Choose to have a Millionaire Mindset!

Why have a poverty mindset? Choose to have a Millionaire Mindset!

Back in March 2008… my wife Melinda and I went to Las Vegas for the first time in our lives. We were excited, thrilled, and pretty stoked to see what this city had to offer. But alas, we made a BIG mistake!

That big mistake was this: Staying at a resort at the north end of the strip called the Circus, Circus.

I won’t go into TOO many details on how bad our stay was at this hotel… but in summary I can say that if you don’t mind smoke-stained walls, dingy carpet that hasn’t been changed since the 1970’s, and itchy blankets on your bed… stay here!

Fast forward a few months later to July 2008. This time we had learned our lesson… and decided to stay at the Platinum Hotel and Spa… which was the BEST hotel we have EVER stayed at!

We were placed in a HUGE 1,500 sq. foot deluxe, sparkling suite that overlooked the beautiful Las Vegas strip… and the fabulous mountains in the background. There was a huge whirlpool jacuzzi that could fit up to 6 people in our room. We had our own personal washer & dryer. State-of-the-art fitness equipment and daily massages were at our call!

This place was fit for ROYALTY.

The thing that had changed for me and Melinda between our two visits to Las Vegas that year was this:

We got the bad end of the deal the 1st time we stayed at a Vegas hotel… and we will be danged if we get a bad deal like that TWO times in a row! We stayed at a crappy hotel the first time… but we both agreed that, that would NOT happen again.

Yes I know… I probably use the word ‘crap’ too much in my writings… but hey, I never proclaimed that I had an extensive vocabulary… so leave me alone (LOL!)

It’s on this point that I want to talk about having a Millionaire Mindset. God tells us in Deuteronomy 8:18 this: “But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the POWER to produce wealth…”

So now we know God gives us the power… or the ability to get wealth…. so do we just sit by patiently waiting for it to drop in our laps?

No way Jose! You get up… and take what is yours!

When I look back over how through God’s abundant blessings… we were able to put ourselves on a road to start building wealth… I can honestly say that it started with a mindset change…

Too often, as a result of upbringing, our parents, school systems, friends, whatever — our minds have been conditioned to have a poverty mindset.

A person with a poverty mindset just can’t become wealthy… and even if he/she does get wealth through let’s say an inheritance or winning the lottery, they will most likely lose it all.

On the other hand, if you drop a person like Donald Trump or Oprah Winfrey off in Haiti (the poorest country in the western hemisphere)… and take away all their wealth and finances… I can guarantee you, within 5 years they will be worth millions once again!

Why? Because they both have a Millionaire Mindset.

My own personal mindset change all started out with 4 IMPORTANT principles that I decided to follow (which I will cover every Friday for the next month):

(1) Not Going Back to Crap!
(2) Educating Yourself!
(3) Believing in Yourself!
(4) Taking Action!

Not Going Back to Crap!

When it comes to money or whatever station you are at in your finances presently… make up in your mind that this will be the LOWEST state that you will ever have in your finances.

Back in 2002 when I declared bankruptcy at 22 years of age… I made myself a solemn promise that something like this would NEVER happen again. I didn’t exactly know how I would prevent myself from deteriorating back to that condition… but I was firm on my decision:

I hate being broke. Nothing is worse than being broke. Being broke is a joke.

My mind was made up that I would NOT return back to this crappy, embarassing, and soul-sucking condition of bankruptcy that I had faced. For those of you have declared bankruptcy before… you know EXACTLY what I’m talking about.

When you can change your mindset and believe in something… I believe that God honors that decision… and gives you favor along with resources to aid you to reach whatever your mind seeks to attain!

For me… 2002 was a crossroads in all aspects of my life (relationships, finances, education, my future)… and I had a made-up mind that I would travel forward from that point, and NEVER backwards.

I invite you right now friend… wherever you are at in your financial life, if you are NOT at the point or path where you know you should be… or if you are struggling financially (and no, God does NOT want you to be broke)… make a decision right now as you are reading this, that this is the lowest point in your finances you will ever be at in your life.

You might not know how you are going to get out of debt… you might not know how you are going to raise your income level… you might now know how you will start your business… but that’s okay for right now!

I just need for you to believe in your mind and heart, that as far as your finances are concerned… you are at the bottom right now, and the ONLY place you can move from this point… is up!

Let’s do some homework right now:

(1) Take out a piece of 8″ x 12″ paper out now and a marker (or pen).
(2) At the bottom third of the paper… write down Friday, June 26, 2009… (or whatever today’s date is)
(3) At the middle third of the paper… draw a BIG arrow pointing up (above the date)
(4) At the top third of the paper (above the arrow) write down “As of this date… My Finances will only get better. God has given me the POWER to get wealth!”
(5) Hang it up on your wall next to your 10 declarations… and look at it everyday, repeat those words, and believe it!

This is the START of having a Millionaire Mindset! Tune in next Friday, where we will discuss “Educating Your Mind to Be a Millionaire”.

Have fun this weekend, be blessed, rest in peace to the living legend — the King of Pop Michael Jackson… and may you walk in God’s abundance for your life, today!

How to Invest in Your Self (Part 3 of 3)

Daniel Wiafe

Alright, so it’s Monday (definitely the best day of the week - LOL)… and for most of you across the world, you have gone back to work after hopefully a good weekend. My weekend is still going on… I’m writing this blog post from a LaQuinta in sunny and warm North Las Vegas, NV and will return back home late tomorrow evening to good, ole Oklahoma.

Anyways, for the past few days we have been looking at seven (7) things we can pursue… that will increase us spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

These things include:

1) Spend 15-30 minutes a day in Personal Development
2) Put God First, Family Second, Self Third, Others Fourth
3) Make Own Lifestyle Decisions
4) Whatever U Do for Money… Make Sure Your in Business for Yourself
5) Exercise
6) Make the Most of the Money You Bring in to Your Home
7) Map Out Your Own Financial Future

Last Thursday and Friday, we described in detail the first 4 items on the list above.

If you missed Part 1, you may click here to read it first.

If you missed Part 2, you may click here to read it second.

5) Exercise

Obviously exercise is needed for us to keep this marvelous body that God has blessed us with… in good shape. Would you let your car run for a year without changing the oil? Or would you let your child go a month without bathing him or her? Well the same is true with our bodies…. we must keep ourselves physically fit.

The biggest issue with exercise I feel, is that most people feel like they don’t have enough time to do it… but I would say to those people… you can’t afford NOT to exercise. People who live sedentary lives have shorter lives… have more health complications… and the lives that they live are not as exciting (for the most part) as those who are physically fit.

There are THREE (3) major things that we should do so that we can have a strong, healthy body for many years to come…

1. Aerobic or cardiovascular activities – Do this at least 3 times a week at minimum, for at least 30 minutes. Do FUN things that you like, such as playing basketball, tennis, rollerskating, jogging, flag football, bicycling, soccer, kayacking, rock climbing, walking, swimming… ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that is fun for you to do that gets your heart moving, is a good candidate.

Having a strong heart and strong lungs is a primary thing for all of us to do… and there are many fun things you can do to keep a healthy and strong heart.

2. Weight Training – Okay, so I know some of you (especially the ladies)… don’t want to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger… but keeping your muscles strong is a MUST, especially if you want to live a strong and healthy life.

And don’t worry ladies… you won’t look like She-Hulk when you start lifting weights. Why? Because those woman who are super-buff and super-ripped take steroids. Testosterone is the chief catalyst that make muscles become HUGE and BULKY. That is the main reason why men in general… can develop more bulk than our female counterparts.

To check out a good workout program… check out Tim Ferris’ post on Weight Training by clicking here.

3. Stretching – You have to keep your muscles limber… to prevent you and your joints from getting hurt if you have slips and falls. Spend about 10 minutes a day stretching your hamstrings, calves, lower back, neck, quadriceps, shoulders, etc.

6) Make the Most of the Money You Bring in to Your Home
Some people make a LOT of money. Some people make decent money. Some people are so broke, they look for change in between the cushions to pay for gas!

Whichever category you may land in… you are the end decision-maker on where your money will go to. Obviously we all have bills to pay (mortgage/rent, utilities, food, etc.)… but all the rest of the income we have left over after paying the bills… can be spent on things that lift us up financially or take us out.

Do you spend your extra money on buying assets and other things which go up in value for the most part (ex. real estate, stocks, business ventures, etc.) or things which have HIGH value (ex. fitness, giving to your local church, feeding hungry children in Africa, education, etc.)…

…or do you spend the VAST majority of your discretionary income on things which go down (ex. expensive cars, clothes, eating out, movies, jewelry, etc.). Now I’m not saying to NOT buy things of this nature (that would truly suck & life would be boring!)… but what I am saying is don’t spend the VAST majority of your extra income on this stuff.

7) Map Out Your Own Financial Future
IMPORTANT: Do not allow others to map out your own financial future. You should take charge of your own future. Do not depend on your job, or your boss, or the government to take care of you… because in the end, they won’t.

You DO NOT want to be that type of person… who when they are in their 60’s complains that someone else didn’t take care of them. You are NOT a baby, you do not need anyone to take care of you… or to be dependent on anyone… but God.

I am not saying don’t get financial advice. Do get GOOD financial advice from people who actually know what they’re talking about… and follow their advice only when it makes sense in your situation.

God bless you all and if you have any comments… please leave them below. Until tomorrow, be blessed and walk in God’s abundance today!

6) Make the Most of the Money You Bring in to Your Home
Some people make a LOT of money. Some people make decent money. Some people are so broke, they look for change in between the cushions to pay for gas!

Whichever category you may land in… you are the end decision-maker on where your money will go to. How to Invest in Your Self (Part 2 of 3)

Happy Friday to everyone! One more day until Saturday… Hooray!

Anyways, this is Part 2 of our 3 Part series on ‘How to Invest in Yourself’. In this series, we are looking at seven (7) things we can pursue… that will increase us spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally.

These things include:

1) Spend 15-30 minutes a day in Personal Development
2) Put God First, Family Second, Self Third, Others Fourth
3) Make Own Lifestyle Decisions
4) Whatever U Do for Money… Make Sure Your in Business for Yourself
5) Exercise
6) Make the Most of the Money You Bring in to Your Home
7) Map Out Your Own Financial Future

Yesterday, we described in detail the first two items on the list above.

If you missed Part 1, you may click here to read it first.

(3) Make Your Own Lifestyle Decisions
Depending on what your personality or upbringing is… some people are more independant than others are. For example, I myself moved out of my father’s home when I was about 19 years of age, because I had a VERY strong independent nature and because of my upbringing.

My wife, however, grew up in a very sheltered home where her mother was highly protective of her… so when I first met her, she had a dependent nature for the most part (however, this has changed in the past few years… and she has grown more independent).

In order to get further in life… you need to grow more independent in your thoughts and actions, and my wife’s own example proves that this can be done. Only follow a person’s advice if they have succeeded in the area that you wish to succeed in.

For example… I will NOT take financial advice from a homeless person or a person who just had his home foreclosed on. Why? Because obviously their advice doesn’t work… otherwise they wouldn’t be in the situation that they’re in… so why should I follow suit?

When you make your own lifestyle decisions… it is your way of telling the world that, ‘I am in charge of my own destiny!’ Let’s face the facts… people who allow others to constantly make decisions for them…. lead dull, meaningless existences for the most part.

Making GOOD lifestyle decisions means that you make decisions that are in the best interests of yourself and your family FIRST… and don’t allow other’s opinions to bully you into making decisions that are NOT in your best interest.

As Christians… and even for those of you reading this who don’t believe in Christ (yet) and live good, moral lives… we tend to have a soft nature towards others… and want to please everyone around us, and help everyone else around us. While this is a GOOD thing for us to do (think of others first)… we must NEVER put others first, at the expense of our own family!

Is it right for a man to help his brother financially… at the expense of him not being able to keep the lights and water on at his home and for his family? Or at the expense of his children not having hot food at night or clean diapers to wear?

Is it right for a woman to spend all her time at church or working at a food kitchen… at the expense of her husband and children NEVER seeing her at home for ten months at a time?

While we are called to help others… we MUST set boundaries, and never allow our good works to come at the expense of our spouses and children.

Make your own lifestyle decisions based on your own values, your beliefs, your knowledge, your vision, and your goals. Never make them on other’s values and beliefs in order to please that person.

Remember friend…. you are the MASTER of your own destiny!

4) Whatever You Do for Money… Make Sure Your in Business for Yourself
Let me start off by saying this… I am NOT advocating that you immediately go to your boss right now and tell him, ‘I quit… because Wiafe told me too quit!’

Never that… that would be a poor decision on your part.

What I am saying, however… is that somewhere in your financial plans and goals, you should have a plan on how you can make and create money for yourself… outside of your job.

People tend to gravitate towards jobs… over running their own businesses (in my personal opinion)… because they fear the unkown and feel like there is more security in working for someone else.

Jobs are good if:
(1) You are doing something that you like…
(2) If you’re making the money that you want…
(3) and if you are promised total job security (no layoffs) until you reach your retirement age.

If these three things above apply to you… then stay at your job… FOREVER! There’s no problems or issues… and one of my mottos is, ‘If it ain’t broke… don’t fix it!’

However… if you HATE your job… if you are not making the money that you DESERVE… and/or if you go to work everyday in fear of getting slapped in the face with a pink slip… then it is up to you, to take the bull by the horns, and become the CHANGE that you want!

No one else will do it for you… you have to do it for yourself!

If this is you… I highly recommend you get and read the books, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki… and also 48 Days to the Work You Love by Dan Miller.

Also check out the post I did on February ‘09 titled, ‘Need More Money in Your Pocket? Keep Reading if You Do… Part #2

What do you think? Let me know with your comments… all feedback by you whether negative or positive is welcome!

Until Monday… be blessed this weekend and walk in God’s abundance today!

How to Get MORE Done… in LESS Time (Part One)

“Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things… I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy Lord” (Matthew 25:23 KJV)

This verse describes a parable Jesus told His disciples… about a servant who was responsible with the FEW talents his Master had left him. This servant in the end, MULTIPLIED what was given to him… and his Master told him to enter into his joy!

Do you ever find yourself working hard at your business… but at the end of the day… it seems like you never really get the most important things done? Do you sometimes bang your head on the wall… wondering how you could’ve spent 8 hours working… and all you “accomplished” was mailing a few letters and surfing on the Internet?

Then this is a MUST read for you!

We are responsible for the time that God blesses us with on this world… and that includes the time we spend working. If we are faithful with the “few” hours a day we have to make a living… I sincerely believe that He will RICHLY bless us in our time and in our business earnings.

The following is a story about a man named Ivy Lee… who revolutionized the business world with his SIMPLE, yet EASY way to seize control of our time while we are at work at our businesses…. Keep Reading…

About a hundred years ago, Charles Schwab was in charge of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation in the USA. Things were not going that smoothly so he asked Ivy Lee, an efficiency expert, for advice for himself and his managers to help them be more productive.

Lee told him that he would increase his company’s sales and the efficiency of his management team if he could talk to each man for about 15 minutes.

Charles Schwab asked: “How much will it cost me?”

Ivy Lee replied: “Nothing, unless it works. After three months, you can send me a check for whatever you feel it’s worth to you.”

He spent ten minutes with each executive and told them to follow the instructions below:

1. In the evening, write down the six (6) most important tasks that need to be done the next day and arrange them in order of importance.
2. The next day, start the first task and finish it before starting anything else.
3. After finishing the first task, start the second most important task. Finish it and then start the third and so on.
4. After the day’s work, spend five minutes making a list for the next day. Unfinished tasks can be moved to the new list.
5. Do this for the next ninety days and check the results.

Ivy Lee’s plan worked well with the executives of Bethlehem Steel. Charles Schwab was so pleased with the results that he paid Lee $25,000 a huge sum in the early twentieth century.”

Time Management Steps that Work by John Watson

As Watson notes, effectiveness is about doing the most important tasks even if minor tasks get left undone. “A merely efficient person may get lots of tasks done, but they may well not be the tasks that move their life forward.”

Please read that last paragraph again… and again… and again until it sinks in.  “A merely efficient person may get lots of tasks done, but they may well not be the tasks that move their life forward.”

Part Two will come next Monday… and until then… be blessed!

Need More Money in Your Pockets? Keep Reading if You Do… Part #3

I take it if you’re reading this, then your answer to the question, “Need More Money in Your Pockets…?” is probably YES!

The Bible says in 3 John 1:2, “Beloved, I wish above all things that you would PROSPER, and be in good health… even as your soul PROSPERS!

This PROSPERITY the Bible speaks about is not only for your finances… but also in your health, spiritual-life, family, and all aspects of your life.

Prosperity means many different things to many different people… but I’m sure we can agree that prosperity can mean “abundance”, “increase”,  and “wealth” in one’s life.

While I don’t believe that everybody will be filthy-rich like a Warren Buffet… or an Oprah Winfrey… I do believe that in the area of finances, God DOES NOT want any of His children to walk in poverty, be dodging bill collectors, parking our cars half-a-mile away from our house so the repo-man doesn’t get it… you get the point. We should NOT be walking around this earth poor, broke, and destitute!

Before you keep reading this juicy post… you’ll want to get familiar with the first two posts that were done back in December & February:

Part #1 is how you “Spend Your Way into Prosperity”. Sound contradictorary? Who cares how crazy it sounds… it works my friend! In a nutshell it says (1) Pay God First,  (2) Pay Yourself Second,  (3) Pay Those Bills on Time.

This is the link to read the whole post on Part #1

Part #2 is how you can “Simple Ways to Increase Your Income”. This post has a lot of meat and potatoes in it… and will fill you up if you’re hungry! In a nutshell it says (1) Focus in on your talent and (2) Three Simple Ways to Increase Your Income.

This is the link to read the whole post on Part #2.

That said… my wife and I have done financial workshops in the past in the church and in the community… and many times, people will ask, “What is the SECRET to Increase My Finances”…

… and my response would always be the same: “Shhhh… don’t tell anybody. The secret to increasing your finances is this: Make more money and/or spend less money.”

Nice, deep advice… huh? I ticked off more than a couple people with that type of advice.

But in reality it is true… and with most things in life… there is typically a SIMPLE process behind getting what you want in life, but executing that process is what is DIFFICULT for many.

The basics behind having more money and being more financially stable are: “Make more money and/or spend less money.” — Follow this process to a ‘T’, and I can assure with almost 100% certainty that you will ALWAYS be able have a nice roof over your head… a nice car to drive in… nice clothes to wear… be able to take nice vacations with your loved ones… be able to bless others around you… and NOT go in debt doing so.

Part #3 is going to deal with this topic: How to Get Out of Debt.

When my wife and I got out of debt some years ago… we followed the Dave Ramsey plan. We were lucky enough to find out about it while we were still pretty young (about 23 and 24 years old). We executed the plan, and completely got out of debt.

FACT: You simply CANNOT become wealthy financially… if you have an excess amount of debt.

Here is his plan:

(1) SAVE $1,000 IN AN EMERGENCY FUND:
Whatever it takes for you to get money in your savings account… do it! Sell stuff on eBay, Craigslist, garage sales, cut yards, deliver pizza, whatever… get at LEAST $1,000 in your savings account. What this does is to (A) Give you pride that you’re able to save a significant amount of money… and  (B) Helps to protect you for emergencies that happen in life (ex. car breakdowns, etc.)

(2) PAY OFF ALL YOUR DEBTS USING THE DEBT SNOWBALL:
Write down all the debts you have MINUS your mortgage (ex. car payment, credit cards, hospital bills, school loans) on paper, from the highest monthly bill you pay each month… to the lowest. Use the money that you used in STEP ONE to fund your emergency fund, to pay off the HIGHEST monthly bill first.

Keep on paying the minimum amounts required by all your other debts… and attack the highest debt. When you have killed that debt, move on to the next debt, and keep knocking them out until you have NO debts.

The typical person who follows this advice faithfully can be debt free in about 18-24 months.

(3) SAVE UP 3 TO 6 MONTHS OF BILLS IN YOUR SAVINGS

(4) INVEST 15% OF YOUR HOUSEHOLD INCOME INTO INVESTMENTS

(5) COLLEGE FUNDING FOR YOUR KIDS

(6) PAY OFF YOUR HOME EARLY
People say you have to have a mortgage for 20, 30, even 40 years? The devil is a lie.

(7) KEEP BUILDING WEALTH AND BE A GIVER!

Let me know what you think about this post… if you have any questions message me… and I’ll see you at the top baby!

Shoot Your Way to Excellence!

The major difference between the big shot and the little shot is this: The BIG shot is just a little shot who kept on shooting.” - Zig Ziglar, Motivational Speaker

A powerful phrase that we can all let sink down in our spirits. Everybody who has ever succeeded in life… or has become a big shot in business, ministry, community, or in their fields of expertise started out as a small, unknown person.

No one started out big. McDonalds NEVER started out big. Microsoft NEVER started out big. Exxon Mobil NEVER started out big. All these companies started out as small, unknown companies. All of these companies on the rise to their GREAT success… had victories, and they all had defeats along the way.

But the ONE major thing that I believe seperated these world-changing businesses is that they kept on “shooting”, even when they faced adversity, problems, and trials. They NEVER gave up and they NEVER threw in the towel.

They kept shooting, and shooting, and shooting… and even if they missed the target 99 out of 100 times, at least one of their shots hit the target, and in our businesses… many times only ONE deal separates us from being dead-broke… to being a millionaire!

Even a blind man can shoot a gun and hit the target at least once, if he’s given 1,000 chances… all he has to do is persevere, be patient, and keep shooting, and he will by all means hit that target!

This week… if you or someone who is close to you is tempted to give up and throw in the towel in your business, family, ministry, etc., remind yourself to keep on shooting… and EVENTUALLY, you WILL hit the target!

Do You Want IT Bad Enough?? — PAIN vs. PLEASURE

Pain Vs. Pleasure

A couple weeks ago… I had a few conversations with a friend who was out of work. She had come up with a GREAT idea for an Internet business and was VERY excited about it… and asked me what my professional business opinion was of that idea.

I examined it, researched the competition that was in the particular niche she wanted to get into, and decided that it was an EXCELLENT opportunity for her to jump into.

It was a business that she could jump into with less than $150, would only require about 15-20 hours a week of her time, and would generate her NO less than $5,000 - $7,000 net profit a month. I was pretty excited for her too… because when I first heard her idea, my first thought was that it was kind of weak and probably wouldn’t make money… but the research and the facts proved otherwise!

So I told my friend about my findings, and also informed her that I was so SURE that she would succeed in it… that I would design her a website, advertising and sales copy, and mentoring at the beginning of the launch of her business… for FREE!

Well imagine how surprised I was… when she started having hard-core doubts after I told her how AWESOME her idea was. She came up with almost every excuse in the book on why she wouldn’t be able to succeed.

“I’m afraid that I’ll fail…”, “I don’t think I could do all that…”, “What if my business grows too fast, and I can’t keep up”…. were all a few of her excuses.

And I definitely had good answers to all of her objections… but she still wouldn’t budge. Even though she had the skill to make the products for this business, even though she had my Internet business knowledge at her disposal for free, even though she was unemployed at the time… and an extra $60K - $84K a year would be a GOOD financial increase for anybody… she didn’t want to take it.

In my opinion, the intelligent idea that she had… was like a gift and a blessing from God that was sent down her way Priority Mail… and in my opinion, she took the package and marked it, “Return Back to Sender — Wrong Address”. It kind of irked me to a degree.

But when I thought deeply about it… it would be VERY arrogant and ignorant of me to say that someone isn’t successful… because they’re not doing what I would be doing. I mean, as long as a person is happy, content, and full of joy in situation; and their decision(s) doesn’t affect me — who am I (or anybody else) to say anything about it?

If a person works at Burger King for 20 years, flipping fries and is happy… then I am happy for them. If a person only has a 3rd grade education and is content with that level… then more power to them!

I was also reminded of a sermon I heard a few years back… by a powerful teacher, Bishop Gary McIntosh.

Although I forgot the specifics and the words of his message, I remember the main theme of it. In essence he stated this:

In order for you to achieve great things in life, you have got to WANT it BAD enough! If you don’t want it bad enough, then the PAIN that you have to go through and ENDURE through… in order to get to that PLEASURE at the end of the road… will not be worth the painful process you have to go through.

Read that top paragraph again and again and again… until it sinks down into your spirit!

Basically, my friend didn’t want the business bad enough… and so was unwilling to go through the PAIN of uncertainty and the fear of the unknown… in order to attain the PLEASURE of financial freedom of time and prosperity.

And as long as she is happy in the state that she’s at now, then there is NO reason why I (or anybody else) should say anything negative about that decision!

Think about this quick example:

We all know that for the most part, if a person gets a higher education in the form of getting a college degree (or technical education)… they are more likely to be financially stronger & wealthier than those who have only a high school education.

But for many people the PAIN of the process that they have to go through in order to get that education, stops them fast in their tracks!

The PLEASURE of getting an education is that you will generally make a higher income, have a less labor-intensive job, have more employment choices and opportunities, and with the extra money — you can have more in terms of the house you live in, vehicles you drive, clothes you wear; you can give more to people who are in need; and you can save money for your older days and leave an inheritance for your kids when you pass away.

The PAIN of getting an education, however, is you have to spend a substantial amount of time in school or technical education (2 to 10 years) depending on what you’re trying to do. The time that you do spend in school, is time that you are not able to work… and so you make less money during that time period you are going to school.

You have the PAIN and frustration of having to study, remember equations and theories and all that other good stuff…

If that wasn’t good enough for pain — then on top of that, the money you have to spend (or repay at a later date) for your education, can be in the tens (or hundreds) of thousands of dollars. Ouch!

If the PLEASURE of a person being a healthy weight (not underweight or overweight), being complimented by others, and living a long life… doesn’t outweigh the PAIN of getting to that pleasure… (cutting out all that delicious fried foods and sweets, taking time out of our busy days to exercise, etc.)… then the PLEASURE which is at the end of next week… is NOT worth the PAIN that I have to go through this week.

But in the end — you have to decide if the temporary, short-term PAIN you have to go through… is worth you going through… in order to achieve a long-lasting, long-term PLEASURE at the end of the road. If the PAIN outweighs the PLEASURE in your mind, you will not go after the thing you desire — because quite simply, you just don’t want it bad enough!

This can work the opposite way also… sometimes temporary PLEASURE can lead to permanent PAIN.

I remember when I was between the ages of 19 - 21 or 22, I used to do some pretty crazy stuff (if you all knew the full extent of what I did — you probably would unsubscribe from this blog right now!). One of the “pleasures” that I can reveal that I did, was I loved to go to parties and get drunk!

I didn’t drink casually or the light stuff (beer, wine coolers)… when I drank, I drank to get tore up from the floor up. I’m talking about Tequila, Vodka, and I probably would’ve drank Rubbing Alcohol on a good day… if you offered it to me me back then in a shot glass.

I liked the very temporary PLEASURE of not being “accountable” or “responsible” for what I said, what I did, how I approached girls, or how I acted… because being drunk or buzzed makes you feel like that!

But many times afterwards, I would drive home miles drunk as a punk… and it was truly the blessings of God I didn’t hit anything, kill anyone, or get ticketed by cops.

But some long-lasting PAIN that I endured after the pleasure left (besides a nasty hangover the next morning)… was I couldn’t really keep a job, so I couldn’t pay my bills… I was always on edge… and I was terribly depressed for some time.

In many of our cases… the temporary PLEASURES and vices that we might indulge in, or even think of indulging in (smoking and shooting up drugs, cheating on our spouses, getting drunk, having sex with anything that moves, etc.)… by no means ever outweighs the permanent and lasting PAIN that those momentary pleasures can bring us (death, jail, divorce, half your check in the form of child support, AIDS/HIV/and other fun mushroom-like diseases, etc.).

As you continue on with this week friend… remember that in all aspects of life, make sure that if you want to go after something GREAT in life… there will always be PAIN involved in the process of getting there. But many times, it’s definitely worth, so keep on going and don’t stop! And remember, be careful of what kind of temporary “pleasures” you indulge in tonight… because many times you will be facing the pain of that decision for the next 20-30 years of your life!
