How to Invest in Your Self (Part 1 of 3)

Happy Thursday to everyone around the world. Depending on what time you read this post, you have less than 48 hours to go until the weekend comes… so keep on pushing hard in your work week and don’t give up, friend!

Today’s post will be about an important subject (I guess I could say that about everything I write, LOL). It is about investing in the MOST important asset in the world… it is about investing in the security that will bring you in the MOST R.O.I. (return on investment) for your buck!

Today’s post is about Investing in Your Self!

To make it more clear… it’s specifically about investing in your mind and your spirit, and this is part 1 of a 3-part message series.

The issue we have is that across the world, we have too many people who perhaps may love to invest in money… but fail to invest in self. These next three posts won’t really focus too much on money (although you can check out the TodayAbundance.com Money & Wealth Category for more on money).

When you invest in yourself or anything in life… what you are doing is saying, ‘Hey I am going to sacrifice time, money, blood, sweat, tears, my 1st born child (just kidding!) TODAY… so that I can attain something¬† greater TOMORROW!’

But remember, in whatever you do… be like Jesus and “count up the costs” (Luke 14:25-35)

So let’s get started… Here are the few things in no particular order that I think of when it comes to investing in yourself… or personal development:

* Spend 15-30 minutes a day in Personal Development
* Put God First, Family Second, Self Third, Others Fourth
* Make Own Lifestyle Decisions
* Whatever U Do for Money… Make Sure Ur in Business 4 Urself
* Exercise
* Make the Most of the Money You Bring in to Your Home
* Map Out Your Own Financial Future

(1) Spend 15-30 Minutes a Day in Personal Development
I learned this from J.B. Glossinger of Morning Coach. This is important for us all to do. At the beginning of the day (Monday through Friday)… it is vitally important to fill your mind and your spirit with good stuff… that will motivate you, challenge you, enlighten you, teach you, and lift you up!

So what kind of things should you do in your 15 – 30 minutes of personal development during your work week?

Well that really depends on what you do in life… and what you’re passionate about.

I am a preacher, blogger, and run a highly successful Internet Marketing business. As I am always on the go hustling and bustling around… I mostly use iTunes and the iPod for my personal development. I listen to spiritual things on the iPod (Daily Bible Reading, Various Christian messages, etc.)… and then I listen to motivational things that will pump me up on my iPod (MorningCoach, Zig Ziglar)…

I listen to things which will help me to become a better businessman (Internet Marketing Tips, How to Be a Better Sales Person, etc.)… and then I listen to things which will help me become more financially astute (Dave Ramsey, Ray Lucia, etc.).

I also try to read various blogs each week in a wide variety of different genres… and also read at least 2 books a month (or at least try to – LOL). I try and get a wide variety in, because as both a business man & a man for Christ… I am called to be well-rounded in not only Scripture and making money… but in psychology, counseling, speech, homiletics, accounting, marketing, leadership, theology, etc.

(2) Put God 1st, Family 2nd, Self 3rd, Others Last
Now this is just my opinion… so watch as I explain my opinion:

When you put God first… I am not saying you DO this solely by going to church (which you should do by the way, because being around those with the same beliefs strenghtens you). I am mainly saying that you need to give Him (God) personal time each day. This can be 10 minutes, 15 minutes, an hour… whatever is comfortable to you. After all, He made you, created you, and blesses you on a daily basis… we can’t afford NOT to give Him his time.

You can do this through prayer, meditation, and/or reading His Word.

When you put your family second… it is NOT saying you let them run over you and use you and burn you out like a cheap cigar! I am not even talking about putting your whole family first…¬† I’m just talking about your immediate family & household (spouse, kids). Put them first… because friends, jobs, businesses, associates will come and go… but your immediate family is always there!

Make sure that in your busy day… you spend QUALITY time with them. You can always make money, but can you ever replace the time that you missed watching your children grow up? No, you can’t.

When you put yourself third… it means that you spend time to develop yourself and take time to recharge yourself when you are worn out (spiritually, mentally, or physically). It means you don’t allow people to push you around… or use you… or harm you in anyway.

It means you take the time and money to invest in yourself,¬† and build your self-esteem up, and build your self-worth up… because you are a million-dollar creation, in fact you are worth even more than that!

When you put others last… it’s not saying that you’re being selfish by putting them last. Sometimes you will have to make a sacrifice in order to help someone (even when it means putting yourself last). But what it means is again, don’t ALLOW people to use you. Help people when it is in YOUR power to help them… and it won’t cause damage to yourself or your immediate household in doing so.

I personally would love to help everyone in the world with all their issues and problems, but I simply can’t.

I would love to give money to everyone who is broke, but I can’t… because I myself would go broke sooner, rather than later… and my wife would probably kick me out of the house if she seen the bank account was drained to zero!

I would love to spend time listening to everyone’s problem and offering to help them find a Godly solution… but I can’t, because I only have 24 hours in my day… and on top of that, I need to deal with Daniel issues!

More stuff to come tomorrow at http://www.TodayAbundance.com… so tune in! Kris Trujillo, if you’re reading this… I’m still only 29 years year-old (LOL). What do you think about today’s post? Anything to add on or take away? Agree or disagree? Let me know by commenting below!

Be blessed and walk in God’s abundance today!
